SOURCE: Have a 1999 lexus es300.

If you have some common tools the knock sensors are no big deal.  If you take a lexus they will make is sound like you need to completely disassemble the engine and scare you off.
First, do you really have a problem with preignition causing real knocking due to carbon buildup, or diluted gasoline or do you have failed knock sensor(s).  Try to decarbon the engine first.
There is a technique used with water being sprayed into a warm engine intake.  This will clean up the valves and carbon buildup which can result in engine knocking.

The job will be a couple hundred for the parts and a couple hours of your time.  After you are done, you have entitled yourself to approximately $500 in new tools for your tool chest since this is what Toyota and Lexus will charge to fix (about $1k+).

You will need to buy the following to address the knock sensors and a couple other items while you're in the neighborhood.
- 1x upper intake plenum gaskets - 2x lower intake plenum gasket - coolant bypass hose found in the same area as knock sensors - 2x knock sensors (bank1 and bank2) - short pig tail cable which connects both knock sensors to common wire harness. - toyota antifreeze  (2 gallons, if i remember correctly... when mixed to 50/50 (antifreeze/ water) you will have 4 gallons.
drain the radiator drain the front of the engine using the engine drain plug - this plug is on the front right side facing the engine, behind the right hand exhaust manifold. (this will lower antifreeze enough to avoid dumping antifreeze all over the engine later) remove the air filter box remove the connections into the throttle body remove the cable from the throttle control remove the upper air intake plenum remove the two lower air intake plenums remove the antifreeze fill port
Knock sensors will be in the valley between the lower intake plenums.  You will need to remove the rubber antifreeze bypass hose (little short hose blocking access to the knock sensors).
By the way, the reason you bought a replacement, is that if this short hose splits from normal wear, you need to spend this money and effort to reach it, so just do it now.
The little pig tail cable which connects both knock sensors to the wire harness is said to cause a big majority of the problem due to the plastic getting hot and brittle, falling off and shorting to the engine.  While in this mode the engine thinks knock is occuring and starts to retune the air fuel mixture to get rid of the knock until it goes into minimal operations mode.
After replacing the knock sensors (and tighten to torque specs), replacing pig tail cable, and reinstalling your new short by pass hose.  Replace the lower gaskets, antifreeze fill port, lower intakes, upper gasket, upper intake, air intake, air filter, reattach everything, reconnect all the rubber lines you pulled off, make sure there are no splits in the air intake passage anywhere, retighten the engine antifreeze drain plug, and the drain on the bottom of your radiator, and your done!
Don't forget the easy stuff.  Dilute the antifreeze with water and fill the radiator and overflow tub.  Run the engine for several minutes until its hot and opens the thermistat to allow antifreeze into the empty engine cavities.  Turn the engine off and get a cold one as the engine cools.  Once absolutely sure engine is cold, refill the radiator with antifreeze and refill the reserve tub.  Do this at until all the beer is gone and you are both full of antifreeze (in one form or another)..... obviously red stuff in the car, amber down the gut.

This will sound crazy but it has solved the problem more times than you would believe: give the dash board a and area around it a good wack with your fist. Often the connection to the light is what starts to fail not the bulb.

How do I fix code 13 engine speed sensor Above 1000 rpm

Clearing the codes is simple that is done by removing the fuse of the EFI from junction box 2 for 10 seconds. Make sure to remove the jumper wire and switch the key off before clearing the codes.

Here are some common Lexus vehicles 1990-1995 codes:

Code 12 and Code 13 Rpm signal circuit fault
Code 14 Igniter signal circuit fault
Code 16 ECT control signal fault
Code 21 and Code 28 Main oxygen sensor fault (for ES300; SC300 & GS300 models)
Code 22 Coolant temperature circuit fault
Code 24 Intake temperature sensor circuit fault
Code 25 and Code 26 Air fuel ratio fault (for ES300 & SC300 models)
Code 27 Sub-oxygen sensor circuit fault (for ES300 CA & GS300 models)
Code 31 Low airflow meter voltage (for ES300 and GS300 models)
Code 32 High airflow meter voltage (for ES300 model)
Code 35 Barometric pressure sensor circuit fault (for GS300 & SC300 models)
Code 41 and Code 47 Throttle position sensor circuit fault
Code 42 Vehicle speed sensor circuit fault
Code 43 Starter signal
Code 51 Switch condition signal fault (for ES300; GS300 & SC300 models)
Code 52 Code 52 and Code 55 Knock sensor circuit fault
Code 71 EGR system circuit fault (for ES300; GS300 & SC300 models)
Code 78 Fuel pump control circuit fault (for GS300 & SC300 models)

Speed Sensor (ABS Sensor) on my 02 Camaro (Passenger side rear) is shaved down. ABS thumps while driving and making right turns.

Most likely you have a defective ABS sensor which is part off the front bearing assembly. you will need have or if you have a code reader capable of reading abs codes find the wheel that is causing the code. Then source the part and if you have the ability to replace it replace it. The code/ light should go out when the abs signal is getting correct information.

Abs, brake won't go off, fluid full, just changed rear rotors and pads and rear brake line. also, trac light flashes on and off. how do i reset this now that it is fixed? car is a 2002 lexus is300

The ABS system and TRAC system are very similar. Signals from the speed sensors in the wheel hubs and one on the output shaft of the transmission are checked against each other. If when you apply the brake a wheel is detected as running much slower than the others brake fluid is relieved from this wheel to stop it skidding. Likewise when you accelerate the speed sensors detect a wheel speeding up faster than the rest and the brake is applied to it to gain traction control. So you can see that the speed sensor operation and their signals are central to both ABS and TRAC. If you have a problem with one then you invariably have a problem with the other. You need to check that the speed sensors to the wheel hubs are intact, that the connections are good and that the wiring has continuity. Also check the speed sensor on the side of the output shaft on the transmission casing, the connection and continuity. If any part is loose this will be enough to upset the complete system.

ABS stays on a 2001 GMC Jimmy

This is a common issue, and is pretty easy to fix. There are ABS sensors on the wheels, and you have a bad one. Usually the wires become corroded, and are easy to spot. The unit is on the back side of the wheel assembly.

The ABS light and Brake Light are on all the time?

This can be caused by dirty wheel sensors and malfunction of brake signal from the wheel sensors, the speed sensor on this year comes off the back of the rear differential and is a magnetic pick up, but you need to have the codes pulled to know for sure. If the brake foundation is not good then the ABS light would come on as well.

ABS light on!

Its possible you damaged a rear wheel speed sensor when you did the strut job. If the wire was pulled tight when the strut was removed it could have pulled the copper strands in the wire from the sensor causing a open circuit. This is not uncommon. You need to have the ABS system scanned for codes and see which rear wheel sensor is effected. If you were to just clear the code it will just come back on. With the ABS light on, the ABS system is deactivated and the brake system works normally as a car without ABS.

Replaced rear strut and ABS light will not go out

Some generic scanners will not interface with the ABS ECM, do you think you might have damaged the wheel speed sensor while replacing the strut? Test it with a DVOM for 2.5 to 2.8 VAC while someone spins the wheel.
