Blor fan is not working in my 1996 jeep cherokee

So you're getting heat, but the blower fan itself is not working (hot air comes from open vents, but not "forcefully blown in" from the fan? Were you hearing any squealing noises when the fan was on, before it quit working? If so, your fan motor is probably dead. It could also be the fan switch, or a fuse or relay. in the circuit.

How do you force cooling fans to come on?

Water temperature needs to reach from 140 degrees to 160 for the both fans to come on. Both fans should come on when you turn on your a/c. You can hardwire a relay to the faulty fan but it is recommended that you take it to an electrical shop. If you feel comfortable rigging it yourself then I can guide you through the wiring process. You will need a relay with a relay socket or if a relay socket is not available, crimp female connectors will do. A soldering iron and electrical tape, along with wire strippers and cable ties. Keep in mind we are assuming the fan motor works and is not shorted out. If you are unsure, do not attempt to continue, for it can cause a fire or damage wiring. Do this at your own risk! Follow this simple diagram:

Good luck!

My monte carlo overeheats and shuts down. Why?

The shut down may be a result of the PCM seeing the vehicle overheating and doing this for protection.

Make sure your cooling system is full

Check that the engine fan is working. It may get to a high temp before it turns on. You can also turn on the AC if it works and that will turn the fan on (may take a bit as some respond to system pressure). But that will just tell if the fan and relay work, not if the temp sensor is working.

Swap the relay for another, (A/C for fan)

Does the expansion tank get full and/or coolant forced out of the system? May have blown head gasket causing combustion to force the coolant out of the system.

Thermostat may be stuck.

Water pump impeler may be bad

I have 2003 grand cherokee with 140000 miles that overheats at idle. as soon as i start moving again, the temp goes back to normal.

You have two fan's on your truck, 1 is a fan clutch runs with the drive belt, 2 elec fan motor, with test light and engine running at normal temp, just a little bit above 1/2 way on your temp gauge check voltage at elec. cooling fan harness if you have voltage at one of the two wire's and fan don't turn on, bad cooling fan motor, on the fan clutch after you check voltage at elec. fan motor turn engine off, with your hand spin drive belt fan if it spin's freely bad fan clutch, replace it.Also check cooling level.Hope this was very helpful
