I would first check the belt tension on the one that drives the water pump.
Second, I would replace the thermostat if no loose belt is found.
I recommend flushing the cooling system before replacing the thermostat to avoid refilling the system with coolant twice.
Most auto parts stores Advance/ Autozone etc will get the diagnostics codes from cars computer and tell you why the light is on and what the problem is if there is a problem.
