Hhr check charge system

My 2006 HHR just recently has been having battery icon and DIC alert for check charging system. I went to Auto Zone and they put tester on battery and everything checked out OK but light and alert still keeps coming on. Any Idea Why this is happening and how it can be fixed?

Did they check the alternator too ? The warning light means the alternator is not charging the battery.

SOURCE: 2006 Chevrolet HHR LT Problem

After searching around, I found several posts that suggested reseating all the relays and fuses under the hood. After checking, I noticed nearly all of them were not seated well. I pushed them all down and I haven't had the problem since.

SOURCE: My 2005 ford explorer check charging system warning light

if charging light is on w/ engine running, the fault could be the alternator or another component of the charging system.remove, clean and tighten battery post connections to check for alternator output, use a volt meter or multi-tester set to 50 Volts DC,w/ tester on battery terminals it should read 12 volts W/ engine off;13 to 14 volts w/engine running.if voltage increases when alternator is spinning, suspect battery

ITS READING MESSAGE BATTERY SAVER ON

Your probably going to need to take to a dealer for this , I don't how much you know about modern automotive charging systems . Plus it would help to have a professional scan tool ! The charging system on you vehicle is computer controlled ! The engine control module (ECM) controls the generator through the generator L-terminal control circuit. The signal is a 5-volt pulse width modulation (PWM) signal of 128 Hz with a duty cycle of 0-100 percent. Normal duty cycle is between 5-95 percent. Between 0-5 percent and 95-100 percent are for diagnostic purposes. The following table shows the commanded duty cycle and output voltage of the generator:
The BATTERY SAVER ACTIVE message will display on the driver information center (DIC) when the vehicle enters a load shed 2 event. Refer to for load shed 2 setting criteria.
The electrical power management (EPM) system is designed to monitor and control the charging system and send diagnostic messages to alert the driver of possible problems with the battery and generator. This EPM system primarily utilizes existing on-board computer capability to maximize the effectiveness of the generator, to manage the load, improve battery state-of-charge (SOC) and life, and minimize the system's impact on fuel economy. The EPM system performs 3 functions:
It monitors the battery voltage and estimates the battery condition.

?€¢
It takes corrective actions by adjusting the regulated voltage.

?€¢
It performs diagnostics and driver notification
Load Shed 2 Start
--
Less Than 10.9 V
Battery has a net loss greater than 12 AH
Rear defrost, heated mirrors, heated seats cycled OFF for 50% of their cycle. The BATTERY SAVER ACTIVE message will be displayed on the DIC.
You have a charging problem or battery problem !

I pressed the information button on the radio and the "battery saver" indicator and the "check charging system" indicator suddenly came on in my 2006 chevy hhr. Is there a way to reset these indicators?

test battery for charge with a meter with engine off then do the same with the engine running. should be around 12volts on a charged battery and with engine running be around 14volts. check these.

I have a link that explains how you may have blown a fuse while jump starting your HHR.

It states that using the junction box under the hood to jump start can blow your electronic power steering fuse. It says it is a 60 Amp fuse.

I hope this helps, if so let me know with some feedback please.

You are going to need to recalibrate the remote to the vehicle. As long as the remote works correctly which i think it should. It will actually tell you how in the owners manual. I am not current with the HHR as i have not worked on one yet. They must be reliable!

How difficult is it to replace a battery on a 2006 Chevy HHr ?

Should be easy to replace the battery. The more important question to me is why does it need to be replaced. If it is a 2009 ( or even a 2006 ) the battery should still have lots of life left in it . can you give more info on what happened to the battery or what is going on that makes you think you need to replace it. Could be that the battery is good but charging system is not working.
