Question about 1999 Volkswagen Beetle

1 Answer

While driving i noticed steam coming from under the hood, so i immediately pulled over and turned the car off and the motor was bubbling. I let the motor cool off and then checked the fluid level and it was completely full. I drove about 5 miles down the road and it did it again. The temp light never came on. what could be the problem?

Try the simple fix first. Replace the radiator cap or the cap on the expansion bottle. That may be all that is needed.

SOURCE: oil light on 99' Jetta TDI

Hi,
The "oil light" is actually a "low oil pressure" light, and not a "low oil level" light. I would get it checked out at a garage asap.
Did they change the filter at the same time? D

SOURCE: overheating problem

looks like you have done everything but the problem with your car is that the cylider head gasket has gone have a look at the dipstick or remove the oil filler cap if it looks like mayo then 100% head gasket has failed you said no water on the floor so it must have gone into engine only way this can happen is head gasket failing, if you have put lot of water in to the cooling system then your sump will be full of oil water mix.

Thermostat needs to be replaced. Refill the coolant after the engine is completely cool. If its still hot the coolant will expand and make it look like the radiator is full. Temp light won't always come on for a thermostat issue.

Would guess there is a high liklihood that you splashed some water off of the road onto a hot engine, hot exhaust, etc. Keep an eye on it for a day or two, but if you don't see the steam on a dry day, and your coolant level is stable, relax.

My 1994 jeep grand cherokee laredo is running hot

could be a lot of different things. bad heater core, cracked, ripped, or soft hoses, crack in the radiator, bad thermostat, clogged lines. next time you run the vehicle, try to see if you can see under the hood to see where the steam is coming from. that will help you to see if there is a bad line or hose. then try to flush the radiator to see if there is a clog in the lines. then go to get a new thermostat if none of those. then you get into the more expensive items the heater core and the radiator.
