Question about 1996 Toyota Camry
Car wont go in drive or reverse all of a sudden no prior tranny slipping how do I figure out if its TCM or shift solenoid or anything else
The FSM covers this.
simple voltmeter checks.
first is to scan the TCM. that too in the FSM book.
or at alldata.com ,log in. and see.
1996 is transitional year,
in that CPM scans get the TCM errors. or not.
if not, then the TCM has its own blinking light codes, that too is in the FSM. (can vary by year, and submodel of camry and engine size.)

They had a problem with this plastic washer that is in the shifter tower it sits just under the shifter it self and gets worn out and causes this to happen- hope that helps.
