Remove shifter cable from transmission

short answer: bar room.
remove both ends, it's out.
my guess, is the console end has you , wondering>?
remove it. and worry no more.

long tech answer (see or FSM)
the is covered in the FSM.
and varies by model and sub model as they can have different consoles and can vary by country.
some cars the car seats need to come out. to get to console screws.
but not this car.
the USA has clips (pull em) and screws.
top down. the beverage holder has screws, the other parts pull up
and clips pop out, the center console box has a rug and clips under there. we just pull them off, by using a plastic pry lever.

here is a quote.
Remove the center console as follows.
  • If equipped with manual transaxle, remove the shifter knob
  • Detach the center console retaining clips and pull the assembly upward
  • If equipped with heated seats, detach the heat switch connectors
  • Pry up on the right side of the console pocket, detach the clips and remove the pocket
  • Remove the screws, detach the clips and disconnect the front power accessory connector
  • Open the console lid and remove the console mat
  • If equipped, disconnect the rear accessory power socket electrical connector
  • Remove the console retaining screws and remove the console from the vehicle.
usually the cable goes into a boxed in area, below the shifter
with seals to keep exhaust out or car. so below the shiter
on and automatic car, the cable attaches to the bottom of the shifting
lever. a clip hold is in place the cable.
if car is M/T (stick) then say so. i posted above due to 90% being A/T

now my question, why not say reason for this. symptoms.
this cable almost never fails.

Key broke off in switch and need to put new switch in . How do I get in to switch .

Behind the steering wheel there are two phillip screws you have to remove first. Then using a 13/16 socket, loosen the big nut in the center flush with the threads and give it a couple of easy whacks with a hammer being careful not to ruin the threads. That should loosen the steering wheel where you can pull it off. Then you have to remove a circlip which holds the turn signal assembly in place being careful not to distort the clip. Next with a phillip screw driver carefully take the three screws that hold in the turn signal assembly and then pull the assembly over the center stud. Now you you can get to the ignition cylinder. With a small screwdriver push in the clasp that holds the cylinder in place and while holding the clasp in you should be able to remove the ignition cylinder. To put a new cylinder in, make sure it is lined up in the cylnder housing and make sure the key is not in the ignition. Just tap the new cylinder with small hammer and it should pop right into place. Very simple. Then reverse the procedure to put everything back together.

How to change shifter light on floor center console, ive removed the main bolts from the rear of console and the brass fittings inside the center compartment but can not get it to move, ive also tried the...

The shift indicator light is under the plastic trim panel on the center console.

Open the lid to the console, and the latch location, you will see the separation. Use a plastic trim tool in here, or along the sides.
The silver color where the cup holders are at is all 1 part, and comes out together. The shift indication scale stays with the shifter ( the chrome trim stays with the shifter as well ).
The spring clips can be tough to pop the 1st time. Best to use a plastic trim tool or if you do not have that, a plastic putty knife.

Cigarette lighter came undone. how do I reattach?

I had this problem as well. Start by removing the small plastic plate by the emergency brake (Pull the brake up). It just pops off, Then remove the left side of the middle console that includes the cup holders and ash tray. It will loosen and you will have to manuever it to take it completely out - turn it sidways to get it out from the shifter, You will need to do this to get to the two screws holding in the front panel where the cigarette lighter is at. Using a phillips screw driver, unscrew the two screws at the very botton of the panel near where it would meet the center console. These screws are hard to get to but can be done. Once you have removed the screws, starting at the bottom, begin to remove the panel slowly as the wiring will still be attached. Unclip the emergency blinked power clip. The cigarette will have two plus that will clip off. The wiring will still be harnessed to the panel, By using a flat screw driver, you can push in the plug clips from the opposite side and the wiring plug will come out. Now you have the panel completely out. Position the cigarette holder in, the metal clip with the little handle goes to the rioght hand side in between the two plastic plugs.holding this all together, there should be a metal ring that will screw back in to hold the cigarette holder in place. once this is secure, plug in the three wiring clips and then plug in the wiring harness once you have the panel positioned to put this back in. once your wiring is back in re-mount the panel and put the two screws back in. Put in the center console molding and then put in the small molding by the parking brake.

I am a woman with no mechanical experience , so goes to show you that this is possible. Time it took me to repair - 30 mins including figuring out the panel screws etc.
