SOURCE: 2009 chevy impala check engine light, engine power reduced and sometimes if I continue down the road after that message, the car shuts down and says staring disabled. Ive read throttle position sensor

Only way to be sure what is wrong is to have the computer scanned with a code reader or scanner to retrieve the trouble codes. They will direct you or a technician to the proper sensor, control, or circuit that is malfunctioning. Many national parts stores provide code reading for free.

Check engine light reduce engine power and traction controll off.

It could be the APP sensors or the throttle body throttle position sensors . What DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes . Need to test the electrical wiring , 5 volt reference voltage. Drive by Wire Function and diagnostics by Wells
REDUCED ENGINE POWER - mass airflow sensor has nothing to do with this problem .
Throttle Actuator Control (TAC)
Reduced Engine Power Mode When the PCM detects a condition with the TAC system, the PCM may enter a reduced engine power mode. Reduced engine power may cause one or more of the following conditions:
?€¢
Acceleration limiting--The control module will continue to use the accelerator pedal for throttle control; however, the vehicle acceleration is limited.

?€¢
Limited throttle mode--The control module will continue to use the accelerator pedal for throttle control; however, the maximum throttle opening is limited.

?€¢
Throttle default mode--The control module will turn off the throttle actuator motor and the throttle will return to the spring loaded default position.

?€¢
Forced idle mode--The control module will perform the following actions:

-
Limit engine speed to idle by positioning throttle position, or by controlling fuel and spark if throttle is turned off.

-
Ignore accelerator pedal input.

?€¢
Engine shutdown mode--The control module will disable fuel and de-energize the throttle actuator.

Problem with my stabilitrak

Stabilitrak doesn't reduce power to the engine. It disengages, no ABS. Reduced power is engine or transmission problems. Have the codes read..Repost

The traction control disabled aletr come on continuously and vehicle reduce speed is activated. why is my car doing this?

Have codes read by someone with a good scan tool which reads ABS codes. Probably a bad wheel speed sensor.

How to remove the malfunction light from the dash

If you disassemble the instrument cluster to disable the light, an open circuit is created and the powertrain control module is put into a "limp in" or "service" mode. You maximum engine rpm is reduced. You maximum vehicle speed is reduced to 50 mph and several other systems are disabled (like stability control and traction control). You're better off just having it diagnosed and repaired properly.

The reason for the reduced engine speed indicator

The reduced engine mode ( limp mode ) will activate when the sensor parameters are exceeded and the CPU recognises this as a potential damage to the engine and/ or gear box. It could be low oil level / pressure or coolant level low/ over heat or any number of sensors that protect the drive train. check the oil level and coolant level and have the fault codes read asap

Hi and welcome to FixYa!
It is safe to drive and I assume that you are on limp mode. This is to restrict the speed to avoid further damage to the engine. You can be facing some sensor issues like the MAF (mass air flow) sensor or TPS (throttle position sensor). If one of these sensor is faulty the car tends to run sluggish, run rough or may even result to stalling.

Have the sensors replaced and observe how it goes. This can fix the issue.

Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa! Have a good one!

This has nothing to do with the heat on the vehicle .
Reduced Power
The reduced power telltale is turned ON by the cluster when it receives a command from the body control module (BCM). The engine control module (ECM) (L81) engine sends a message to the BCM over the CAN serial data link.
The reduced power telltale is illuminated when the ECM is limiting engine torque in a low traction situation. This telltale is used only for the V6 (L81) engine application.
The reduced power telltale is turned ON by the cluster for 2-3 seconds, when the ignition is turned to RUN, for a visual system check.

Taking the vehicle to a qualified repair shop an having it diagnosed would be your best . Unless you have a factory tech 2 scan tool to read BCM DTC'S - diagnostic trouble code's an have factory diagnostic repair info.
Reduced Engine Power Mode
When the ECM detects a condition with the TAC system, the ECM may enter a reduced engine power mode. Reduced engine power may cause one or more of the following conditions:
• Acceleration limiting--The ECM will continue to use the accelerator pedal for throttle control; however, the vehicle acceleration is limited.
• Limited throttle mode--The ECM will continue to use the accelerator pedal for throttle control; however, the maximum throttle opening is limited.
• Throttle default mode--The ECM will turn off the throttle actuator motor and the throttle will return to the spring loaded default position.
• Forced idle mode--The ECM will perform the following actions:
• Limit engine speed to idle by positioning the throttle position, or by controlling the fuel and spark if the throttle is turned off.
• Ignore the accelerator pedal input.
• Engine shutdown mode--The ECM will disable fuel and de-energize the throttle actuator.

any "adjustments" you carry out to reduce engine speed at any given road speed will affect the speedo/odometer reading,BUT,the simplest/cheapest way of reducing revs is to fit bigger wheels/ tyres.say fit 15" instead of 13"with the same profile tyres.this will reduce your revs by about 500 @75mph.but the speedo will read 70mph.also acceleration times will be considerably reduced.and put an extra strain on the clutch/engine.
alternatively, swop the whole drivetrain to diesel,75mph=3500.
