Question about Chrysler PT Cruiser

2005 pt cruiser occassionally overheats

We changed the fan, thermostat and radiator and sometimes the car just spikes in overheat mode. Weird thing sometimes turning on the air condition makes it drop down right away and it stays there, other times turning on the heat produces causes it to get back to normal temperature. What do you think is wrong with it? Relay issue maybe?

Check your fan relays and temp sending units...turning on the heat will help dissipate heat from coolant. turning on a/c will engage secondary cooling fan...check your relays and sending units

SOURCE: overheat 2001 hyundai tiburon

Only 2 parts remaining are the thermostat and waterpump. Always start with the thermostat when diagnosing an overheating problem. If the car is overheating constantly under all conditions and coolant is backing up into the reservoir, it's very likely to be the thermostat. If it only overheats at low speed or idling, it's more likely the waterpump.

It sounds like low coolant to me if it is not leaking out anywhere it is possible that you have a head gasket problem. I would suggest pressure testing the system to see if you have a leak or if it holds pressure. if you do this yourself be sure not to exceed 15 psi.

SOURCE: 2001 pt cruiser ac causes car to overheat

Turn ur car on defrost and check to c if fan is running. It should kick on on defrost. If it does not try checking fan or relay or your fuse. If of does and still gets hot maybe a good coolant flush will work.

Pt cruiser 2008 overheat i change the raditor and the fans , thermostat and still overheat lot of money and still

Has the system been flushed? Correct temperature thermostat installed? Are you getting flow through the radiator? Rad cap sealing properly and is it the correct one? Are the fans actually coming on? Is the temp sensor working properly? Rad properly filled or still have air trapped inside? Water level correct? Water pump working or seized, leaking?

Radiator fan on my 2001 pt cruiser only engages when the air conditioner is on. When the heat is on the fan doesn't work causing the car to overheat. Do I need a new fan?

probably not . There are fuses to check and a relay to check as well as the coolant temperature sensor to check . If the engine overheats when you have the heater on it suggests an air lock in the cooling system . Have the system pressure bled along with all the other checks.

Overheating 2005 PT Cruiser

This sounds like a faulty thermostat. The fact that running the heater helps with the overheating is a common symptom of a faulty thermostat. Just follow the top radiator hose to where it hooks on the engine. The thermostat is located inside the housing that the hose attaches to. A thermostat is relatively inexpensive and easy to replace. Just make sure that all old gasket material is removed from the housing before installing new gasket and thermostat. Also, don't overtighten the bolts, the housing can be easily compromised if the bolts are overtightened. Hope this helped and best wishes.

2003 pt cruiser overheating

It sounds like both problems are related. Possible that you have an intermitent problem with the cooling fan on the radiator? When it overheats are you in town at slow speeds or out on the road moving above 50?
