Then your ready to wiggle and pull the panel up and off, be careful of the area around the door handle, you may even want to pry that area out before you begin.

SOURCE: my steering rack end of my mercedes benz e 230

Some parts suppliers can offer 'reconditioned' units and the price will be cheaper or a refund will be given when you hand over your old steering rack. The price should be in the range $320 to $400 including the refund.

Steering will not move

Check your power steering pump and pump gear and all mechanical linkage to be safe. Most of the time it is the rack and pinion going bad, but can be a bad cv joint so check completely.

How do I remove mercedes benz ml350 2005 steering pinion after taking off the nuts off the pinion. What do I need to remove for sufficient clearance to take out the pinion

Are you talking about replacing the entire steering rack? You will have to lower the front axle carrier. I remember that job when I was an MB tech and it is unpleasant on the ML for that reason. I wish you the best of luck if you are on the ground doing that job.

Whining noise from power steering pump, have ftted new pump noise still there

It is possible that your PS fluid is the wrong type or has broken down. There are differences in the composition, not all PS fluids are alike. Chrysler, for instance uses something different than Ford and the pumps will whine and fail if the wrong fluid is used. This may be true with Mercedes.

Check with Mercedes for specs for your requirements. It is possible that the rack and pinion which moves the front wheels has issues and is either leaking internally or is binding. Binding requires the pump to work harder. The output of your new pump can be pressure tested as well as the rack and pinion.

A transmission shop would have hydraulic testing gauges or Mercedes will. It may be cheaper to try and bleed the old fluid out of the system, front wheel off the ground. Then disconnect line to rack and pinion and work rack side to side to bleed fluid. Then install new fluid and see if it helped.

Can you retro fit power steering to a 1965 mercedes 220 seb?

Yeah, you can do anything you want if you have enough time and patience and money. I'm sure they don't make a kit for it, but, You can rig up some hot rod building parts or aftermarket kits, The problems come from fitting the control arm pump across the bottom of the car, and the bracket for the power steering pump to the motor, it would be nice if they made an electric one! An old rack and pinion might make it easier to steer. Good luck.

2005 Mercedes C230 w/ Kompressor

it seems your have a power steering problem. it could be a simple fix by checking the power steering resevoir for proper fluid level. it also be that the steering pump is failing. the most troublesome is that the rack and pinion unit is the fault. first thing to check is the fluid resevoir if it's low fill to proper level and start the vehicle. turn the steering wheel all the way left and hold till you hear a light squeal, then turn to the right and hold till you hear the squeal. do this several times. this is to make sure there is no air in the system. you should be able to turn the wheel and it should be smooth with no hesitation. if this doesn't solve the problem, then you must take it to a shop to have the pump replaced if it is the fault or the rack and pinion............please rate the solution...thanks
