Question about 2005 Chevrolet Avalanche
The fan control for my Chevy Sonic is stuck on feet/defrost. Why is this and how do I fix it? Is there something external that could be causing the problem?

you have a reostat that is located in the blower motor housing it will have a 2 wire lead to it it's helld in place by 2 screws this is what regulates the fan speed. this should be replaced ..please rate the solution...thanks

99% of the time when they do that it is the control head. that is the thing you adjust all your temp settings on. have to purchase from dealer. have last eight digits of vin # when ordering.

These trucks have a problem where moisture builds up in the heater box then freezes. When this freezes and you change your heater settings it breaks the shaft for the blend door. If this is what happened you should be able to look under the dash above and to the right of the gas pedal and you will see two vaccuum accuators one of them you should be able to wiggle around the linkage if it is broke. To fix this you need to remove the entire dash to get the heater box out which involves discharging the AC and draining the coolant because the heater core and evaporator come out. Please rate.

I had this same problem on my 2006 colorado. when i purchased a new resistor and went to replace it, I decided to check the resistance of each position on the old one with the resistance on the new one. they were both the same. then I decided to look at the harness. I was told that it needed to be replaced as well but I decided to try just the resistor. The harness had one of the connections in the plastic connector that looked like it had over heated. (IE browned char like look) after installing the new resistor, it ran ok for about 2 days then started acting up again. Then I tried my own solution. I pulled the harness loose from the resistor and with the ignition and fan switch off took a paper clip and manuevered it under the connection with the charring and slightly bent the metal connector out. when complete, the adjusted connector appeared to be a tad too far out compared to the other connectors in the plastic. then I reconnected it to the resistor and haven't had a problem since. I did, just out of curiosity switch out the new resistor with the old one and it too also works with no problems. Of course, the dealership will not take back electreical parts that have been placed in use. This should have been a chevy recall but apparently they don't care about anything but the initial sale of their products. I sent an email to GM and got to not response.
