SOURCE: How do I change out a heater core on a 1997 GMC 1500 Pickup truck

you need to remove the glove box disconect the heater hoses look behind the glove box some heater boxes are two pieces and you can remove the heater half some you need to remove the whole piece if that is the case let a garage do it because they need to disconect the a/c so it needs to be evacuated and recharged if it is a two piece box just remove the bolts that hold the heater core under the dash and pull the box strait back good luck

SOURCE: location of blower relay on 1997 c1500 gmc

if it works only on high speed you need a blower motor resistor you will find it close to the blower motor has three wire to it and looks like a small 1 inch by 3 inch piece of computer board material with two screws holding it.once you get it off you will find that one of the springs has lost contact.

My 97 gmc 1500 v6 4.3L is leaking water behind the AC compresser its not any of the radiator hoses, radiator will be full of water but when i turn the engine over it sprays antifreze all over the motor....

There should be a freeze (expansion) plug behind there on the side of the block. I would
look at this first. The next thing would be looking at the head gasket. I would wash the
area down with hot soapy water then take a good look with a strong light. hope this helps.
