Depending on the year, some models ran the fan to prevent the engine from overheating after it stopped. If it runs for more than a minute or two you may have a problem with the fan relay or the engine computer.

Steering wheel won't turn, its stuck and the key will not turn and engine can not be started

id say the 1st and the last symptom is caused by the middle symptom , to figure out whats wrong with that
1) do you have the correct key for that truck, folks that have more than one of these can mix up the keys for them , even repair shops can do it as well
(2) key damaged ??? keys get damaged all the time
(3) lock damaged ??? locks can become broken inside especially if one sticks the wrong item in there somehow

97 Ford Explorer Ignition Key Problem - Will Not Start

Did you program the security system to accept the new key ?
It sounds like the linkage from the lock cylinder is worn out to not let the steering wheel lock. I would want to know if the lock cylinder is turning the switch without any extra movement.

Just had someone try and steal my 1997 cummings 5 speed ram. I replaced my ignition but when I tried to start it I GOT NO IDIOT LIGHTS AND WONT TURN OVER? The fan works and radio but wont start, what am I...

On many vehicles there is a rod that runs from the key switch to the actual ignition switch, usually mounted lower on the steering column shaft. If this is maladjusted from the installation of the key switch, or has been broken due to the attempted break in, it could in fact be the problem. I am not directly familiar with that particular truck, but from the symptoms described, I would start there. Good luck.

  • Anti-Deterrent ECU:
This is also possibility especially someone else drive your car. This is very common if you lend your car to someone. The symptom of this condition is "No noise or sound at all" when ignition key is turned. If this is faulty, the symptom will be the complete ignition kill. Therefore, you will not heard and clicking sound or engine turning at all. If this is the problem, you can easily reset the Anti-Deterrent by using your key. Stand out side of the car and close all doors. Insert the key into the driver side door and turn the key to clockwise and counterclockwise for three four cycles. Basically, you are lock, unlock for 4 times and this procedure will reset the anti-deterrent ECU. If this happen to you, its quite scary at first, but the solution is very simple.

Fan on the air conditioning only works sometimes

Blower running all the time, even with the key out is a dead ringer symptom of a bad blower motor speed control. Replace that an your blower problems will disappear. See post below. For manual, call your local library and ask if they have online access to repair manuals.
