Question about GMC Yukon

Symptoms no start

I was driving my 97 yukom with a 5.7 and it just quit. dead peddle and coasted to astop. truck turned over but would not fire. check all roadside things i could, ie Fuses,ecm conectors, battery and alt wires even tried jumping as battery started fading. nothing!!! Towing home now, getting code scanner. I had a distributor gear fail on another truck a few years ago so that is my first thoughts is the cam gear stripped but i know that is a pain and hope thats not it. I dont want to jsut do exploratory surgery I would like to pin point a lil better before just throwing parts at it. thanks

Check the crank shaft position sensor.

    Have fuel dribbling out of fuel filter. when key is on there is a flow of fuel coming out not very high pressure but it is pumping.....should it be high pressure ? its flowing like a garden hose on low...

    I didnt undo the pump side of filter ....going to get one now and see if it is that before I drop tank is that right?

    there are two measurements on a fuel pump, Flow and pressure! They are not that expensive to just replace because checking flow is dangerous. Average pressure is not as high as you would think.

    Thanks Brad..... I replaced filter and bleed off air in system at schreder valve and still nothing, dont have pressure gauge but it started with a cap of gas and stayed running with ether, wanted to idle but was very rough without the can of ether and then would die and not fire with out gas or ether. Im sure it is the pump truck has 248k and probably has never been replaced. i dont want to drop tank so I will have a friend do it at his shop I think...

SOURCE: 1994 Oldsmobile 88 Royal- Intermittent shut down and no restart. I need major help on this one!

Well dan after 13 yrs at gm I have found a couple of these. one really got me. First I know it sounds funny but you need to pull the carpet back on the dr. and pass. side and check the ground splices as they are connected to every thing in the car from front to back. they are a black connector taped into the harness and connect all the grounds with a steel buss bar. I always cut all the wires and soldered them together and re-tape em up. this problem would sometimes come with the engine dying when trying to roll the power windows down, or intermittent window operation. Second I had one car i really lost my **** on... it would stall on the cust. on HIS dirt road for him at times. I tried a couple of sensors and a ecm as each would look bad depending on the frame the scan tool would freeze on. The only thing that fixed the car was removing all the grounds on the engine and grinding them clean, replacing all the ground ends and reassembling. That prayer i said when the guy picked might have also helped but the car never stalled again and the cust returned for his next two car purchases. this is one heck of a problem you have here-sorry. I have had to wire in lights to the grounds and powers for the injection while driving before also. remember the pink and blk. wires for the injectors is hot with the key on.

Sounds like a fuel issue. If it only does it when it's cold try putting some heet in your tank?

It sounds like your starter motor could be at fault.

Does it turn over slowly,or not at all with out the jum leads?

The reason car batteries do that is because the battery only runs your accessories and starts the car. The alternator runs the vehicle and charges the battery once it is started. If the battery is failing the charge provided by the alternator runs your accessories and the leftovercharge is displaced into the dead battery.

please RUN the scanner /computer by easy diagnostic and fix it.
Remember the electronic vehicle now is very complicated. You have a faulty PCFM + BCM+ignition COil, sensor, etc. see the diagram attached.

If one of the sensors is failing, you should be getting a check engine light and a trouble code.
When you say it has fuel, do you have injector pulse and fuel pressure in the rail ?

you must RUN the scanner/computer for easy diagnostic and fix it .
Remember the electronic from vehicle NOW is very complicated.
You can have PCM or BCM faulty, or ignition COIL, or spark plug or sensor, faulty. etc
see the diagram attached.

Transmission problem


If you mean a 100 mph, then that is perfectly normal. They are making engines with governors inside so a person cant try to outrun the police. Mine will get up to 100 and lose all engine power till the speed drops back down to 97. Then the engine kicks back in again.

97 crysler sebring convertible wont start cranks but no fire replaced the timing belt and pullys distributer cap and rotter button the plugs and wires were replaced last month it has no fire the symptoms...


Hmmmm...are you sure when you changed the timing belt that all the timing marks were ligned up correctly?

Did you check to make sure you had no damaged valves?

97 honda accord want start


Check the timing belt settings. Bring it to top dead center and verify that that all the marks are where they are supposed to be. Had that same problem 5 years ago and it was that the belt had jumped 1 tooth due to stretching. Hope this helps.

Quit running while driving. Battery not dead. Not out of gas.


sounds like the fuel pump is the problem, they start running slow many times before the finally quit, this causes low fuel press and the symptom's you describe, have the fuel press checked under a load..
