The check engine light came on when the temperature sensor reached its hot limit. The coolant came out because the engine overheated. Possible causes for the overheating are low coolant level ( caused by leak )... radiator fan not working.... thermostat not operating properly....defective water pump/bad belt.....restriction in the cooling system.....head gasket problem

SOURCE: 2003 kia spectra check engine code p0604

I have bad news for you
p0604 is a transmission control module

check the connection at the transmission control module if there are no connection issues than you will need to replace the transmission controll module "tcm" there is no other test for that code.

good luck

SOURCE: I have a 2003 Kia

Do the following exactly as stated, i think u have air in the system.

The generic method of bleeding air from the cooling system is to use a floor jack and raise the front of the car as high as poss, then fill the coolant recovery tank full and run the engine until it just starts to overheat, high end of normal zone on gauge, then shut the engine down and run cold water over the radiator core, this will self bleed the system and the coolant will be pulled from the recovery tank, repeat as necessary, never let the recovery tank run dry or more air will be pulled into the cooling systeml , if it still overheats then you need to have the head gaskets checked with a gas analyzer for hydrocarbons present in the radiator or recovery tank

My 2005 Kia Sorento, temp gauge is midway between half and high. Just started, cooland and oil are fine. Heater works fine. Belts are good. What could be wrong. Check engine light came on this morning too

May have a cooling fan that has malfunctioned mounted on the radiator. Check under the hood for a fan or two mounted on the inside or outside the radiator. If you find one or two, start the car and let idle watching for fan(s) to kick on when thermostat gets hot.

Cooling fan relay switch located

look in an area close to the thermostat housing and/ or near the temperature gauge sender. IT will have a squarish looking connector with 2 wires attached.

I actually have a 06 spectre ex, and my issue is that my indicator on the dash continually shows that the car is running hot, i had a leak in the over-flow and replaced it, car still overheats. Help!!

First you should check to make sure that you are actually overheating. Although rare, sometimes the temperature gauge messes up and gives the incorrect reading. So before you start replacing parts, suggest you check what the temperature actually is.

Normally, when a car is overheating, it will be either the thermostat, water pump or the radiator (partially plugged up), but there are a few other things that could affect it. But those are the top three. If you have not replaced the thermostat before, it might be a good place to start. Then you should check out the radiator. If you have a laser thermometer you can go across the fins one by one and see if there is a large difference - which would indicate a partial blockage. If not then move on to the water pump.

Having issues with a 2000 chevy impala overheating have changed the radiator and the thermostat fans seem to be working ok but overheats at idle in stop and go traffic, after a certain amount of time it...

YOU NEED BLEED COOLANT SYSTEM.CHECK COOLANT LEVEL IN RADIATOR.ADD MORE DEXCOOL UNTIL COOLANT LEVEL IS CLOSE TO RADIATOR SPOUT.CRANK ENGINE LET IDLE UNTIL TOP RADIATOR HOSE GET HOT.WATCH TEMPERATURE GAUGE.IF TEMPERATURE GAUGE START RISING TO HOT ZONE.TURN OFF ENGINE.LET COOL DOWN.USE LARGE RAG SLOWLY OPEN RADIATOR CAP A LITTLE AT A TIME UNTIL ALL PRESSURE RELIEVED.REMOVE RADIATOR CAP.ADD MORE COOLANT.CRANK CAR AGAIN LET IDLE UNTIL TOP RADIATOR GET HOT.KEEP EYE ON TEMP.GAUGE ALSO.WHEN TEMP.GAUGE STOP CLIMBING.YOUR COOLANT SYSTEM BLED.WHEN DONE LET CAR SET A WHILE CHECK COOLANT LEVEL.ALSO FIRST THING IN THE MORNING CHECK COOLANT LEVEL AGAIN.AND BESURE ADD COOLANT IN THE OVERFLOW JUG TO THE COLD MARK.DONT OVER FILL THE COOLANT RESERVOIR JUG.WORK SAFELY DONT GET SCALDED.

2005 kia spectra over heating

Did you install a new thermostat and make sure to bleed all the air out of the system when you replaced the radiator? If you didn't, or installed a Stant thermostat, replace it with a FACTORY OEM thermostat. Make sure the cooling system is bled by opening your radiator cap (WHILE THE CAR IS OFF AND COLD), starting the car and running the heater. Add coolant to the radiator as the engine heats up, until is at normal operating temperature AND starts spitting coolant back out.

Hope this helps,
matt

My 2005 Kia Sorento is running hot I have no idea why.

did you check the coolant level? , is a good place to start, a low coolant will make the car running hot, also check if the radiator fans are runing when the car reach the normal temperature, usually in the middle of the gauge..other than , I recommend you to take it to your mechanic to be checked for leaks in case is loosing coolant
