SOURCE: 1994 GMC Sonoma - brakes went out - we have

Did the peddel go to the floor when the breaks went out before you replaced pads and lines? If it did than its the master cyl. If you replace the master cyl. yourself just remember you have to bench bleed it before you install it. The new master cyl. will come with instructions on how to do that. The calipers will not do what you discribed unless they have a major leak. Also after you install the new master cyl. chanses are all the breaks will have to be blead, starting with right rear, left rear, right front, left front. In that order.

SOURCE: 2001 sonoma parking brake petal wont lock into place

There's a ratchet in the top of the pedal which holds the pedal down when depressed. This ratchet is worn, broken, loose, or it just needs lubricating. I would first try WD-40 on the top of the pedal where it attaches to the frame/chassis.

SOURCE: 1994 gm sonoma will not engage in 4x4 mode

Well this could be numerous things..

Does the vehicle make any kind of noise when you try to shift it into 4x4? Do the dash lights on the push button shifter light up?

It is very common for the transfer case shift motor to go bad on these. They are located on the side of the transfer case by 3 or 4 10mm bolts. Another possibility would be the plunger on the front differential is bad. This is located on your front carrier assembly. It screws right into the side of the housing.

If you aren't sure I would take it to a good shop and mention these 2 things and they will take care of you.

Good Luck!

1994 Jimmy - Rear brakes are dominating after brake job

You need to bleed the whole system. Once this is done it should work better. Make sure you are not low on brake fluid. If the front brakes are disk brakes and the rear are drum breaks, the front really does most of the stopping, the back jjust keeps the car from spinning or swaying. But the main stopping power is in the front breaks. They need to be bled correctly, make sure brake fluid is up and make sure emergency break is not engaged. The emergency break uses a lever and cable to activate the rear brakes. The emergency breaks don't run off brake fluid...

please give good ratings, they are very important...

I have an 1986 toyota pick-up and my emergency brake light wont go off.... whats wrong with it

under the e/brake there is a switch it actuates the light, i would say that it is corroded/stuffed. take off the h/brahe surround and you should be able to see two elec wires if not the switch itself, if you just want the light off cut one of the wires and tape it up, this will brake the circuit and diable the light, or if you want it fixed properly, replace the switch. hope this has been handy.

Emergency brake pedal will not stay down when i press it.

The parking brake actuator (the mechanism you press with your foot) works like a ratchet wrench. The pedal has a cresent shaped plate with teeth on it. It pivots on a mounting plate. There is a pawl with a small spring also on the backing plate. This pawl engages the teeth on the pedal assembly to hold the brake engaged (against the large return spring).
Stick your head under the dash and look carefully at the parking brake actuator mechanism. See why the pawl is not engaging the teeth on the pedal assembly. Most likely causes are that the release mechanism is jammed "on" or that the light spring which attaches to the pawl is missing (usually from being kicked by some one with large feet) View this mechanism on another GM vehicle with the same style parking brake if you suspect that parts are missing.
