SOURCE: get very low gas mileage (14.4 mpg) on a 2004

suggest you add lucas fuel injector cleaner that you just add to gas tank.your plug wires may also need replacement, they break down causing loss of spark, consider what brand you replaced them with last year, we're they cheap off brand? remember you get what you pay for when buying knock off imitation parts.suggest you also replace that old air filter too. hope this helps!!

scan it? if there are DTC errors, it might in LIMPHOME mode, with RPM limits dropped for good reasons.
or is misfiring. that too can be felt or seen with the scan tool.
the poor idle proves its running bad, no other symptom better prove this. its misfiring, only queston is , why.

Doing a tuneup on a 1991 toyota celica. replaced plugs, wires, rotor and distrubutor cap. just bought car and it was running rough - plugs were carbon fouled, continuity of wires was poor, so tuneup was...

Coughs and backfires is definitely a timing problem. Without a timing light..you can get the timing pretty close...Loosen the distributor bolt and move the distributor a bit one way and tighten the bolt slightly and try to restart the car. Note, if it starts or gets better..in other words by moving it the way you did, did it try to start easier or did the coughing and backfiring get worse. If not continue ever so slightly in the direction you moved it, till the car starts and and is running. If it gets worse moving it in the direction you started with, move the distributor the other way and do the same as listed above.

This is not the absolute 'Right Fix' so to speak, but will definitely get the car to a point where you should get it running.

Sounds like my 2002 nissan pathfinder is bogging down when i gas it , it runs fine but gets crappy gas miledge

needs a tuneup, definately change fuel & air filters, replace spark plugs & wires, distributor cap / rotor, change oil & filter, it would'nt hurt to replace cat conv., it restricts exhaust flow, between you & me , take it off, put a straight pipe in its place, is your inspection up to date ? you'll have a year to replace your CAT, before next inspection. just remember that. nissans this year usually need to have the timing belt replaced, nissan charges $900 + to do it. BIG DIFFERANCE ! see how it runs after tuneup, also , you may end up replacing both the cam & crank sensors down the road. I would replace the OXYGEN sensor/s as part of tuneup, it will help a great deal.

1993 jeep grand cherokee loses power at operating temp.

ever do a real tuneup this decade
spark parts, and filters. that be first
and make sure the hot engine (sized not stated) is really hot.
180F or more, and holds, it must reach normal spec, temp.
or the ECU brain will not do its job right.
the only clue I have here is skips
skips must mean misfire.
there are over 50 causes of misfire.
bad spark plugs tops the list.
and all spark parts there, cap/rotor,wires set this OLD.
car is old , needs a major tuneup

they to forget all that other stuff, and elaborage
what skips means.
i guess never cold does it skip.

taCH DROPS TO ZERO BUT engine not heard to stall?
if yes, electrical problems or CKP failing?
what does engine do when TACH does that, matters big time.

How to do a tune up on a 2001 Mitsubishi Galant 4 cyl

Hi there,

The good news is.... very little is required for a tuneup.

Your vehicle is equipped with a PCM/ECM which controls all the engine parameters, based on the signal received from the engine's various sensors etc. The PCM will also control your idle speeds.

So, this means all you need to do is replace things like spark plugs (ensure correct gap and fit when engine is cold); air filters, engine oil and filters.

If your car is not running correctly after your tuneup, then are diagnostic check will need to be done to determine which circuit requires attention.

stop by any good parts store IE: Autozone, Advance, etc and have them do an OBII scan (fault scan) they do this free then you'll find what's troubling your rig.

What would i need to do to give a general tuneup

hi, a general tune up would require the following
if its petrol then do the following
1, remove oil and oil filter and replace filter and new oil
2, replace the air filter
3, replace spark plugs
4, replace fuel filter
5, check all top ups such as coolant level, power steering, brake fluid, washer bottle.
6, check tyres are all the same size and check pressure
7, check all lights are working,
8, check wiper blades for splitting.
9, check gear box oil level and top up if needed.

if your is diesel then do the same except you wont have spark plugs to replace.

It is also worth buying some fuel line cleaner just make sure you buy correct type ie petrol or diesel then follow instructions on bottle a good brand is called Red X and you just pour it into the fuel tank then give the car a good run for about 20min this ensures the cleaner has worked its way around the whole fuel system cleaning it along the way.
doing this improves performance and increases mpg so it saves you money in the long term, its advised to use this product every couple of months doing this ensures you wont be wasting money replacing injectors etc as this product ensures they are always clean and not getting blocked by contaminants in the fuel.

let me know if you need further assistance ok

1986 Honda Accord Dx keeps dying out.

Have you checked you plug wires?? I would also check your idle speed that can cause the car to die. If it is carb. then it may need to get a choke replaced.
