Evap ,,, bad gas cap,,,not venting,,,,,,,evap purge valve,,, under truck, has trash in it,,,,,,,,,evap solinoid,,, under hood stuck open,,,,all 3 pieces together are less than 100 bucks,,,,,,,, get the whole assenbly(purge valve) at pep boys,,, 31 bucks,, the othe 2 are 20 to30 each,,,get any where, also could be a a bad fuel presure sensor in the top of the gas tank,,, very rare not likly or the charcole canister ,,,never seen one bad,,,,if you have a odb2 scaner tool, scan down to the evap vp and evap purge,, at cold start the evap vp (h20)..,,,0.125...,and stay fairly steady, if it rises steady the solinoid under the hood is bad or stuck,,, .The evap purge should be 0.000 for about 90 seconds then open and be around 11-15% at idle,,,,

SOURCE: passing smog

Well, the actual procedure is to drive the van far enough to let the engine computer sample a wide range of conditions. The standard method is 100 miles at various speeds including highway and city driving. You could do it in 30 or 50 mile runs but it needs to be over 50 miles total.

I have a 2003 Hyundai sonata and my check engine light came on and i read it for a o2 censor i replaced it and the a code came back for a incomplete Evap, i was wondering what that is and how to fix it?

Check your gas cap , u need replacement of gas cap and if that don't work u need to do smoke test on your evaporated system but first change the cap.

Why would my check engine light be on

The check engine light comes on when your vehicles on board computer detects an emissions related fault. if the light is flashing you are doing serious damage to your engine during operation if the light stays on steady then there is a problem with your vehicle causing it to pollute more. possible causes range from evap lines and purge valves to catalytic converters. best place to start would be to take the vehicle to a service facility to have the stored trouble code read.

Ran out of gas recently. when refueled and started again, check engine symbol stayed on? well mainted and has always ran great since new.

Sometimes the check engine light will come on if the fuel cap is not on tight enough. Check the fuel cap for an intact seal and install at correct tightness.

A major auto parts store will read out the stored trouble code in the car's computer for free. If the code pertains to the fuel EVAP system, the code probably set because you ran out of gas. Copy down the code and then have it erased. The check engine light should go out. If it comes on again, have the code read and the problem checked out.

CHECK GAS CAP / ENGINE SERVICE ARE ON

Most likely an evap system fault code stored in engine computer. Best bet and cheapest thing is go to the dealer and buy a new cap. Install the cap and drive the car for a few days if the light goes off, your all set, if not you need to check for codes. Then probably find a leak or a faulty evap vent valve or purge valve.

Check engine light does not turn off

If the light is still on there is a problem that is causing it to not turn off. If you replaced the EVAP cannister take a look at the EVAP solenoid. It trips the same code as the cannister and is more often the cause of the light rather than the cannister.
