Question about 1989 Toyota Corolla Sedan

1 Answer

Won't start My car won't start, it will randomly every 3 days or so, when it does get started, it makes a wierd blah noise every so often, someone said it may be the timing chain tooth missing, I've replaced many parts already, including the fuel pump relay box next to the battery, plugs and wires, rotor, fuel filter and coil. what else could it be, it has a carborator.

Wont crank or
cranks robustly and wont start.
cant run if it dont crank .
got good spark, got good compression over 150PSI (w.o.t)

carbs are real hard to tune. and parts hard to get, so good luck with them, I restore old cars and mix 3 old carbs to get one so know how.
it not allow any noise, to just happen, i fix them first.
no machine will go long when its telling you, IM dying.
find the true source of the noise , but $5 stethoscope and find it.
which exact engines. E90 corolla
quote:
Many engines were used on a wide array of trim levels and models, ranging from the 1.3 liter 2E to the 165 horsepower (123 kW) supercharged 4A-GZE.

find your engine type, then post what it is exactly
here is the full list

cars are best boiled out (carb clean tanked) and kitted then tuned
the top reasons for bad carb starts are.
choke stuck on, or off or adjusted wrong.
dirty jets or emulsion ports
leaking power valve.
leaking float valve, or stuck.
float lever all wrong
fuel pressure too high causing above. line.
base gasket cracked,
some one jetted it wrong.
perforated float (sinks like Titantic)
and more, seen them all....

SOURCE: 1995 toyota camry-stalling out when driving

You do not have to replace the fuel pump at a specific mileage.
I hate to speculate without physically inspecting the vehicle, but, my best solution here & now may be the fuel pump. Now, I would not go out & buy one before you had proper diagnosis. Here is one test, but you will need to have to experience the stall again, and then test to see if you have fuel pressure at the injectors. If you have no fuel pressure, replace the pump. Fuel filter issues do not "come & go", they stay, and your car would not run properly. Also, a fuel pump failure will not set a computer code on this particular model vehicle. Hope this helps..

SOURCE: car wont start, not getting spark

crankshaft sensor, or computer on toyotas then it was usually the distributor or the computer, but the crankshaft sensor might be bad too thats what helps to get you spark.

My car runs fine for days then i'll park somewhere and go to turn it back on and it won't start at all. It won't turn over or anything.

CHECK BATTERY CONNECTIONS, STARTER CONNECTIONS, WHAT DO YOU DO WHEN IT DOESN'T START, TO GET IT GOING AGAIN, DO YOU GET A JUMP START IF SO CHECK CONNECTIONS.

Car won't start, has wierd sound while trying. Is it the battery?

Is it a clicking sound? If so, likely the battery is bad.

95 Ford Taurus SHO 3.2 stalls randomly

On one of the occasions when it won't start back up, someone will need to figure out if you have lost spark to the plugs or fuel to the injectors to be able to troubleshoot the problem.

Won't turn over... just makes a clicking sound... and a wierd humming sound.

Try cleaning your terminals at the battery, even if not corroded. In my years as an alarm/radio installer I have come across this problem constantly, especially on GM vehicles.

1998 Buick Skylark Theft System light on won't start. I have no chip in my key, and it starts every time for months than randomly it won't start for a day or week.

Right around 98 GM starting using Passlock antitheft instead of the old Vats system which had the visible chip in the key. Your system most likely has a transponder in the key head. Same idea, just a newer system. Go to this link. It explains the problem along with a few ways you can fix it yourself with out having to buy multiple parts that may not be broken.

STARTED QUITTING AT HIGHWAY SPEED , BUT WOULD

Well if it is a gas engine truck the most likely cause is a bad fuel pump. If it will not start now, turn the switch on and listen to hear the fuel pump. It should make a faint hum noise for about 3 seconds after the switch is turned on, it will only run for a few seconds to prime the system. If you have someone to help you, you could put your ear to the fuel fill with the
cap off and have someone turn it on. If you cannon hear the pump have
someone attempt to start the truck while you beat on the bottom of the gas
tank with a rubber mallot, it the truck starts, sputters, to you hear the pump come on while beating then you have a bad pump. This may sound like a wierd test but mechanics do this all the time to check a pump.

2002 Ford Taurus has no power. No head lights no dome light no horn blah blah. Ok first of all my cars alarm kept going off by itself off and on for 2 weeks. I come out to start the car and it goes click...

One possibility is that the battery terminals are either corroded or not tight to the battery posts. Second, the battery itself may have seen its days. Try another battery of simply replace it. If the problem still exists, the have a mechanic inspect the main wiring from the battery to fuse block. Your alarm device may have its own battery source. The tick tick are the cars systems relays trying to engage, but there is not enough power for them to engage.

My car makes a wierd noise when starting it up

IF ITS MAKING A CLICKING NOISE WONT TURN OVER.CHECK BATTERY CABLE FOR TIGHTNESS AND NO CORROSSION. THE BATTERY VOLTAGE. SHOULD BE 12.5 VOLTS.IF NOT HAVE IT CHARGED AND TESTED.IF ITS GOOD HAVE ALTERNATOR CHECKED OUT.IF BOTH IS GOOD HAVE THE STARTER REMOVED TO HAVE IT AND THE STARTER SOLENOID TESTED.NOTE DUE TO LOCK OUT FEATURE.TURN OFF RADIO SO YOU WONT LOSE CODE WHEN YOU DISCONNECT NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE.
