Question about 1989 Toyota Corolla Sedan
Wont crank or
cranks robustly and wont start.
cant run if it dont crank .
got good spark, got good compression over 150PSI (w.o.t)
carbs are real hard to tune. and parts hard to get, so good luck with them, I restore old cars and mix 3 old carbs to get one so know how.
it not allow any noise, to just happen, i fix them first.
no machine will go long when its telling you, IM dying.
find the true source of the noise , but $5 stethoscope and find it.

the top reasons for bad carb starts are.
choke stuck on, or off or adjusted wrong.
dirty jets or emulsion ports
leaking power valve.
leaking float valve, or stuck.
float lever all wrong
fuel pressure too high causing above. line.
base gasket cracked,
some one jetted it wrong.
perforated float (sinks like Titantic)

You do not have to replace the fuel pump at a specific mileage.
I hate to speculate without physically inspecting the vehicle, but, my best solution here & now may be the fuel pump. Now, I would not go out & buy one before you had proper diagnosis. Here is one test, but you will need to have to experience the stall again, and then test to see if you have fuel pressure at the injectors. If you have no fuel pressure, replace the pump. Fuel filter issues do not "come & go", they stay, and your car would not run properly. Also, a fuel pump failure will not set a computer code on this particular model vehicle. Hope this helps..

crankshaft sensor, or computer on toyotas then it was usually the distributor or the computer, but the crankshaft sensor might be bad too thats what helps to get you spark.
