hi i just had the same problem in my 2000 stroker. here is a way cheap fix that will only take 15 mins and it will repair this problem. And save you the money ($400.00 or more) for a new unit. but to start of just remove the outer shall cover of the console. (there are just clips that hold the outer shell cover on) then once the shell cover is off there are (3) torque head screws i think it is either a 8 mm or a 10mm but anyway take them out and then unplug the wire harness from the board. when this is out, turn the unit over and take the torque screw out of the back i believe there is just one. after the screw is out be very CAREFULLl!!!!!!!!!!!! The reason to be very carefull is there will be little power resisters that are loose mine had fell out and was laying inside the unit. they are sort of diffecult to see so it is very inportant not to loose these because these are the reason the unit does not work. Ford did a very crappy job while sodering the resistors into place. (main power resistors) How to identify them is they are very small rectangular shaped with small numbers on them .chrome in color. Anyway take out your sodering gun and re attach them back to the board if they are still on the board check and make sure ALL of the resistors are secure. if they are not you can be very careful and just touch the outsides of the resistors with the sodering gun but do not let the sodering gun over heat or burn the resistor only put enough heat to the outside of the resistor to make it adhere back to the board. and they should be just fine. when all of the resistors are secured then put the cover back on the unit and reinstall the unit back in the console and plug in the board. If you want you can check to see if the board lights up and works before you put the outer shell cover back on. 99% of the time the resodering methhod (repair) will be effective unless you have a burned out board,

Below is a layout diagram and desciptions for each fuse circuit. This should be in your owners manual if you have one. If you don't and would like a copy, you can email me at firstname.lastname@example.org with your make model and year and I will be happy to email you a copy. I hope this helps and good luck.
