How do I get it in reverse it in stuck in forward

Didn't get info on which car or van your working on but a lot of gearchanges can jam due to heavy handed gear changes check top of gearbox turret remove screws se if end of gearchange stick has broken off remove and look inside box get large screwdriver and lever cutouts in selectors and lever into line and if stick not broken then refit some ford transit turrets seize and stick in gear lubrication is the answer also transit has a crosspin that snaps needs retapped if cable or lever make sure not seized

2005 KIA SEDONA GEAR STICK FLOPPY / BROKE?

there is a bushing for the shifter in the console that holds the stick in place. if this bushing is broken it will let the stick move freely without changing gears.

The gear shift moves but never goes into gear. What can I check before calling machanic.

if th9is is rear wheel drive you will have to get under the vehicle and look at the cable that hooks up the selector shift inside of the vehicle to the transmission.... Any ways, look on the side ofthe transmission (drivers side and you should see a lever connected to a cable... see if that cable is dis-conected and/or moves when the selector lever (gear shift inside) is moved. If it does move with the movement of the selector lever, then the issue is locatred inside of thr transmission, and should be looked at by a mechanic... other wise reconnecting the cablke is as easy as tightening a bolt, and adjusting the placement of the cable inteh correct position, in sync with the transmission... IF you need more clarification, let me know and I will post pictures for you to look at and compare with your transmission...

IF FRONT WHEEL DRIVE:
Front wheel drive transmission is visible from under the hood and would be easier to diagnose, but what you are looking for (actuation of levers with movement of gear shifter from inside of vehicle, and cable attatchments are all similar, just in differenbt spots).....

Like I said, if you need p[ictures, let me knw and I will post them . Just tell me if rear wheel or front wheel drive.

I have to change the gear selector cable on a 1.4 renault megane 06 as mine has snapped. how difficult is is to do and do i do it from under neath or thru the top? can someone give me a step by step guide...

I have the same problem on my 06 1.4 megane, it is the neutral cable that has snapped, one nearest the passenger side. I have been told you must remove all centre console (4 spline key bolts and lots of plastic) remove the 4 bolts securing gear shaft and selector, then fron underneath the car, remove front part of exhaust followed by heat shield, then remove gear selector cables and withdraw selector mechanism, then replace cable and refit. I will be attempting this next week and will post any problems on here.

I have a 1994 Merc Grand Marquis and the gear selector does not go into park and remains in neutral, the selector does not line up with the corresponding gears on the dash guage. Is there a cable or rod...

no it goes from streering column to the dash view with a rope like cable, you have to remove the plate under the column to find the area needed to fix
