If it calls for mid-grade or premium gas and you put in regular and have been using regular it will cause a knock overtime. Also, you could be overdue for an oil change which has resulted in sticky lifters. Do an oil change and use Quaker State (as it has detergents to clean the lifters) and try some Sea Foam or Lucas in the oil as well. You will need to do a few frequent (100-200 km (approx 150 miles)) oil changes to clear the stuff that was causing the lifters to stick as it will end up in your oil filter and eventually get flushed back out if you don\'t.

Transmission kicks hard when put in drive

The problem is the transmission I'd check the fluid levels. Shops are notorious for not filling fluids to the proper levels. If that isn't the problem which it may not be Then some1 did a very bad job on the trans. The fact that you have been having problems from day 1 is not good. Even so that could be a low fluid problem so I'd check that first. Hope this helps.

1999 suburban lifer noise

if you have a stethascope or even a wood dowel i would check the lifters. if you have higher miles this sounds like a hydraulic lifter pumping up. if you change to a heavier oil it will go away or reduce. thats the cheap fix.

When my car is iodiling and when i give it gas it has this noise that sounds like a ticking my son keeps telling me its a lifer?

Before your next oil change, get a can of engine flush.

Follow the direction on the label and it will free up the lifters and valves.

Since you has a 1988 vehicle,it is possible the spring on the cylinder head is aged.

Use 10W40 will keep the noise down.

A well care for engine will last up to 140,000 miles.

If you do a lot of in town driving then 120,000 miles will show sign of wear like the valve and lifter noise.
