SOURCE: overheating problem

water pump. water pump. water pump. i am a vw dealer tech and on 2.0 and 1.8t beetles the water pump impeller is plastic, and what happens is usually another component, fans, fan control module (under battery tray), thermostat, fails and because the impeller is plastic with just one overheat the plastic becomes brittle and shatters, pull the water pump out and you will see the impeller in 3 or 4 pieces. replace water pump and make sure t stat opens, fans come on (a/c off) and proper water pump flow.

SOURCE: Dodge 318 overheating.

HI. It could possibly be the the thermostat is stuck shut. If thats the case when the vehicle warms up it will probably overheat all the time. The best way to tell is buy a new one and change it. They are usualy around $10.00 at any autoparts store. If you change it and it still overheats, it could be the waterpump.

SOURCE: Hi, my 99 vw beetle

Head gasket for sure would cause it to smoke and get hot. May seem like a stupid question, but did they check the thermostat? If head gaskets are good now and radiator was replaced, look for the obvious. Thermostat or air bound engine. An air pocket in the engine could also cause this. Need to bleed the air out of the cooling system. Some cars have a bleed screw to do this.

SOURCE: Vehicle says its overheating but isn't

Question. Did you get coolant temp sensor from auto parts store or dealer? If from auto parts store they are not a very good product for VW's. Get the one from dealer.

You need to have the engine control module scanned for fault codes and don't drive it until the overheating light is checked out or you will destroy the engine if it is really running that hot.

No Reverse and the fluid is dirty and smells funny.

Sounds like you blew out your reverse belt/gear in the transmission. Probably going to need a transmission rebuild/replacement.

does it sound like there is any compression. remove cover on the right side that covers t-belt see if belt might have broken. if cooling system failed could have blow fuse for cooling fans. causing overheating.

I just purchased a 2000 VW Beetle 1.8 Turbo but, there was no Owner's Manual included with the car. A light has come on my dashboard and i don't know what it's for. It's a blue light in the shape of a...

If the light goes out after engine gets alittle warm, this is normal. Since there is no temp guage, VW uses this light to inform that the engine is cold. When that same light flashes red, it means that the coolant is low or the engine is overheating.
