SOURCE: hi i have a 318i bmw 2001 my fuel consumption is

Last month, my wife complained of high gas usage as well. I suddenly remembered that I had forgotten to change the air filter the last time I did the oil change. It had been over 5 months since I'd put a new one in. So, we got a new air filter, and monitored the usage, and it was back to normal again. Maybe try this?

BMW E46 318i Fuel consumption problem it is apparently using 1 mile of fuel every 100 meters. BMW E46 318i

Could be many things, but fuel pressure regulator, leaking injectors are most likely. DO NOT DRIVE UNTIL FIXED. If the fuel is really getting into the oil pan, oil will be diluted and could damage engine bearings.

How can I repair high fuel consumption problem in my car? Will the change of fuel filter make fuel consumption better and solve this problem?

what motor do u have in the car , there are only a small number of things you can do to help this , a good tune up , K&N air filter , headers ,good tires with proper air . make the car lighter depending on the size of your motor these are the main things you can but if you have a big block motor in yout car , get another car , if you have a 4 cyl already , you really are getting good milage per gallon , get a bike if you are a cheap skate

Fuel consumption too much. 12.7litres to 100km. All electrics in good order and engine smooth. Brian

The poor performance of the car makes the consumption go up as it needs trimming of the engine. The main issue can be a fault in the fuel settings and so we need to check the carburetor as the fuel mixing is very important. Remove the plugs to check gap and condition of plugs. The black plug indication will confirm that the performance is bad, high fuel use whereas a fully fired plug without deposits must be the ideal view. Check the HT coil and the HT wires, if the intensity is bad this must be swapped and checked to confirm. DO NOT CHANGE any part without a confirmation by trying with a replacement from another vehicle or friend. Now use a strobe to check the Timing on the engine. Adjust if needed to see the TOP DEAD CENTER-TDC- mark. If there is valve noise make sure that the tappets are set properly so that the valves seat firmly for the best compression. Also check compression of engine if there is imbalance on the engine or reduced power.

So finally the plugs, the gap settings , the valve settings, the fuel/air mixture and timing must be trimmed for best performance.

The fuel setting needs experience to achieve the performance.

1985 318I bmw idle is high what do I need to do

A high idle could be due to many things but a major cause is a vacuum leak causing too much air to enter the fuel system which in turn causes the computer to overcompensate with fuel. Take it to an auto parts chain store where they will do a diagnostic scan for free and see if any error codes are present.

Fuel consumbtion

Hey, I read an article about this. Your BMW may be suffering from any one of nine of these causes, including bad spark plugs. See the list and explanations:

1997 328 i convertable the engine lite just went on just bought

When the "Check Engine" light comes on in the 1997 BMW 328iC, the problem is 99% Emissions Systems. First thing to check are the Four (4) Oxygen Sensors. That is correct your convertible has four O2 sensors. They are about $100 to $118 each, online.

I have done this procedure it is not a big deal. It just requires four sensors. More than likely you and your car experience one or several of the following:
  • Engine will not accelerate and backfires
  • Check Engine light is illuminated
  • Irregular idle during warm-up
  • Irregular idle with warm engine
  • Poor engine performance
  • Fuel consumption is high
  • Driving performance is weak
The O2 sensors reduce emissions and tells the computer how to mix your gasoline to air mixture going into your engine.

Since you say you have a 328, they have either two or four O2 sensors. The 1997 BMW 328 Convertible has four. Your chassis style is also referred to as a E36 series. Your engine is a 6 cyl M52.

Good luck

Ralph
