One of the belt pulleys likely has a bad bearing. watch the pulleys for binding while it's running or remove the belt and check each pulley by hand. AC puts more strain on the belt...if the belt is not new and pulleys check out, (and tensioner is working properly) change the belt.

My car makes loud screeching noise when starting.

could be your serpentine belt. usually when they get worn they will start to either slip or cause a very high pitched screeching noise. to verify that is the cause get some water or brake clean in a spray bottle and spray it on to the belt while the vehicle is running. if the noise goes away for a moment you found your cause. if not then its something else. Hope this helps

Battery screetching when both cable connected

The loud screeching sound is from the serpentine belt slipping over the pulleys a little. You probably got some radiator coolant on the belt or pulleys when replacing the radiator. When you connect both battery cables the alternator is trying to charge which puts a load or drag on the alternator which causes the belt to slip over the pulley enough to cause the screeching. The only way to correct this is to take the belt back off and wash it with warm soapy water to remove the coolant contamination from the belt. Then scrub the pulleys also as coolant was transferred from one pulley to another by the serpentine belt. Then replace the belt and put a little comet cleanser onto the belt to extract a little more of the contamination from the belt and pulleys before you start it up. And last but not least make sure the belt has the correct tension so as to prevent it from slipping. If you wait to long the belt will always be contaminated and forever screech. Do not buy any belt dressing for the belt. That stuff is junk and makes the rubber in the belt soft and leads to a premature belt failure.

The belts continue to make a loud screeching noises when i drive over 55. Sometimes when the car is idling the belts make noise. Could it be the tension pulley.

it could be the tensioner, water pump, alternator, A/C compressor, power steering, or even a really bad serpentine belt. The only way to be sure is to remove the s-belt and spin-check the pulleys and listen for squeaks or grinding bearings.

Loud screeching noise upon starting

It is your serpentine belt slipping on one of the metal pulleys and the friction is causing the high pitch screech. The belt may need to be tightened or replaced, which is an easy fix.

1999 neon making a loud screeching noise under hood passenger side

It sounds like you have a belt or pulley problem, or possibly a bad bearing in the alternator, or water pump. I would suggest, having it looked at, by a mechanic right away.

I have a 1990 240 DL volvo and there is a loud screeching noise when I turn the A.C. on and turn corners. If I turn the A.C. off the noice stops. What is it, and how do I fix it?

Your drive belt tension may be set too loose or the belt itself is going bad. If you have a spring loaded tensioner, that may have weakened as well. Bottom line is that when belt is not tight enough, the normal load from the compressor added to the extra load on the pump when turning causes the belt to slip (making noise) Eventually, it may begin making noise when started as the alternator demands more power in order to work (you likely have heard cars with this problem in parking lots...loud screech right after starting) Wish I remembered which method they use to restore tension on yours butyou can easily get that info in any inexpensive manual (they may even allow you just to browse it without buying)

Good Luck!!!

Loud screeching noise coming from car after stops.

the screeching noise is most likely caused by a slipping belt or pully. transmission probably needs fluid and filter changed.
