I just looked on my 86 gran fury--I have a blue and a black wire. They both run up into a combination of other wires(including the voltage regulator mounted on the firewall, the wires from the windshield washer fluid tanks, etc). This larger set of wires run along the firewall across to the driver's side. Maybe start unwrapping the wire bundles closest to the wire in question,, and you will find the broken wire end inside. If you meant the coil wire(in the center of the top of the ignition coil;it has a rubber boot on it), it goes to the center of the distributor, which is behind the air cleaner along the firewall. both wires need to be intact for the car to start.

SOURCE: wiring ignition system, hall effect electronic ignition system. ignition coil, pick-up coil no spark at the coil or the distributor cap. any idea or perhaps a diagram of the wiring. it's a 1991
We do not have wiring digrams here but you can access them and all the factory service information here for a small fee.

This year vehicle has a coil on the firewall with a built in ignition module and they pack up when old ,take it off you will find the coil housing is split only course is to renew the whole unit ,not expensive about 70 euros from auto factor for a agni or magnet marrelli replacement unit

So what do you want to know ?? used to build them on the assembly line ,well the mk3 ,only three wires to worry about plus on some a a aux feed for the radio ,a ford radio that would pick up the pirate radio stations better than anything ,dont forget to check the seat stiching if original some of the girls missed a stich or two .Non crossflow engine carb over exhaust manifold so not so good as later models with crossflow engine. Now the guy who put the pistons in was polish and guy who fitted the oil pumps was from jamacia ,well on my shift anyway. The head bolts were all pulled down at once with a big air operated tool and pistons were fitted with a 2lb club hammer but hit the pistons with the wooden shaft ,built at 3 engines a minute line speed .What happy memorys
