Long bolts are torqued to 46'lbs + 90 degrees.

Short bolts are torqued 43'lbs + 90 degrees.

Start in the center, and work to the edges, torquing the bolts in two stages.

Rockers are torqued to 22'lbs.

The problem may very well be fixed by tightening the boltto the factory spec, but what you must realize is the gasket has lost its even shape from extreme temperature changes.being its now thicker in one area as apposed to the next thus causing the leak from shrinkage.retightening the bolts tro specs will mean you are sinking the bolts at an uneven level and possibly warping the pan from ever seating correctly when facing the enevatable and thats replacing the gasket. i suggest just replacing the gasket with a quality aftermarket performance gasket as apposed to the factory gasket from the dealer or local parts store.you will find the quality and reliabilityand the longevity of the performance aftermarket gasket will far eceed the limits of that of the stock one.i know this wasnt a solution to your problem but hopefully i have saved you several hundred dollars from having to replace the pan itself due to the warping issue.

OIL PAN
Removal & Installation
1. Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove engine torque strut. Raise and support vehicle. Drain
crankcase. Disconnect oil level sensor electrical connector. Remove oil level sensor and oil filter.
Disconnect front exhaust pipe from manifold. Remove right front wheel and splash shield.
2. Disconnect oil cooler pipes. Disconnect A/C compressor electrical connector. Remove A/C compressor,
and position aside. Disconnect engine mounts from frame.
3. Remove flexplate access cover. Use transmission jack at transaxle to raise engine. Remove oil pan bolts
and oil pan. To install, reverse removal procedure. Install oil level sensor after oil pan is installed. Tighten
retaining bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS.

The Main Bearing Cap TorqueTo install:
  1. When reassembling, clean the bearing caps and journals in the block thoroughly. Coat the bearings with a liberal application of clean motor oil.

  1. Fit the upper bearings halves into the block and position the lower bearing halves in the bearing caps.
  2. Place the crankshaft into the engine block, making sure it fits exactly into its mounts.
  3. Install the upper thrust washers on the center main bearing with the oil grooves facing outward.
  4. Install the main bearing caps and the lower thrust washers in the proper sequence. Make sure the arrows on the caps point towards the front (pulley end) of the motor.
  5. Tighten the cap bolts to specification in three passes. On 3E and 3E-E engines, use the correct sequence.
  6. Double check the end-play of the crankshaft by repeating the procedure described earlier.
  7. Turn the crankshaft through one or two full clockwise rotations, making sure that it turns smoothly and evenly with no binding.
  8. Attach the piston rods, following procedures given earlier in this section. Remember that the rod caps must be reinstalled in their original positions.
  9. Install a new rear main oil seal into the retainer and install the retainer onto the block. Tighten the bolts to specification.
  10. Install the rear end plate on the engine.
  11. Install either the driveplate (automatic) or the flywheel (manual), observing the matchmarks made during removal.
  12. If equipped with a manual transaxle, reinstall the clutch disc and pressure plate.
  13. Install the oil pump.
  14. Install the oil strainer and oil pan, using new gaskets.
  15. Rotate the engine into its upright position and continue reassembly of the timing belt, idler pulley and covers.
  16. Reinstall the engine in the car, following procedures outlined earlier in this section.

Start from center bolts and tighten in a clockwise rotation working out
Step 1 all bolts 22 Nm or 16 ft lb
Step 2 all bolts 44 Nm or 32 ft lb
Step 3 all bolts 45 degrees additional clockwise rotation using an angle indicator.
Step 4 all bolts 45 degrees additional clockwise rotation using an angle indicator.

1ZZ-FE Engine 18.5 Nm (14 ft.lb)
2ZZ-GE Engine 18 Nm (13 ft.lb)

Connecting rod:
1. Apply a light coat of engine oil on the threads and under the heads of theconnecting rod cap bolts.
2. Install and alternately tighten the 2 connecting rod cap bolts in several passes. Torque: 1ZZ-FE: 20 Nm (204 kgf-cm, 15 ft. lbs.) 2ZZ-GE: 30 Nm (306 kgf-cm, 22 ft. lbs.) If any of the connecting rod cap bolts does not meet the torque specification, replace the connecting rod cap bolts.
3. Retighten the cap bolts by 90 more

  1. Tighten in four steps (refer to illustration in Cylinder Head Installation for tightening sequence):
    • Tighten in sequence to 70-90 Nm (52-66 Lb-Ft)
    • Then back off all bolts 360 degrees
    • Tighten in sequence to 45-55 Nm (34-40 Lb-Ft)
    • Tighten in sequence to 85-99 Nm (63-73 Lb-Ft)
  2. Tighten in two steps
    • 20-30 Nm (15-22 Lb-Ft)
    • 26-32 Nm (20-23 Lb-Ft)
  3. Advance 3/4 to 1 turn after gasket contacts sealing surface or tighten to 13-15 Nm (10-11 Lb-Ft).
  4. Tighten in two steps:
    • 7-15 Nm (6-11 Lb-Ft)
    • 26-38 Nm (20-28 Lb-Ft)

2002 escape 3.0 camshaft cap bolt torque specifications


make sure to apply 5w-20 oil to caps prior to install. Also caps and journals are number so you do not install in wrong place. Starting with Righ side looking at pulleys from front, right side cam start with first cap on left being #1 then bolt on other side of cap as #2. Cap behind would be #3 to left then #4 bolt next to it. Keep tightening the next 2 caps behind them in same manner, then jump to front of cam to left side and tighten caps front to back. You should tighten to 10 Nm (89 lbs-in) with a torque wrench. Then you tighten left side head cam caps starting with the left side if looking at front pulleys. Start at front caps working to rear then jump to right side cam front to back. Tighten these caps at 8 nm (71 lb-in) using torque wrench. Also make sure if heads are bolted to block that cam pulley postion is the following: left side looking at pulleys------left pulley mark at 12 o'clock right pulley mark at 3 o'clock. Right side head looking at pulleys------- left side pulley at 9 o'clock and right side pulley at 12 o'clock. When I say clock postion that means using head where valve covers meet as your straight vertical postion.

CAM SHAFT BEARING CAPS 15 FT LBS. DRIVE SPROCKET BOLT 58 FT LBS. CAMSHAFT END PLAY IS 0.006 in. WARNING THIS IS THE 2.8L ENGINE WHEN TORQUEING CAM SHAFT BEARING CAPS YOU HAVE TO TIGHTEN THE BOLTS 2 TURNS AT A TIME IN A DIAGONAL PATTERN TO DRAW THE CAMSHAFT DOWN AGAINST THE VALVE SPRING.

HOW TO CHANGE OIL AND FILTER ON A 2007 BENZ 230 ,why does the local service center want 120.00 to do it


The dealer will usually charge double with it would cost for you to buy the oils and do it yourself because of the labor involved....

This only applies to 2001-2005 (I-4 supercharged engines) or w203 chasis. It might be the similar for other C-class models.

Tools Needed:
1. 27 mm socket or a cresent wrench
2. Small flat head screwdriver
3. Funnel
4. 8mm socket *
5. 1/2 inch socket *
6. Lift Jack*
7. Oil collection pan*

* Optional tools, only needed if you plan to drain the oil. If you **** the oil out these tools are not needed.


Parts/Supplies Needed:
1. Oil Filter (MB Part # A 271 180 00 09). My dealer provided a new drain plug washer the filter.
2. Oil (Mobile One 0-40) C230 (I4 SC) needs 5.8-6.0 quarts.


Procedure:
1. Locate the oil filter and slightly loosen it, DO NOT remove it at this time. This will allow the oil in the filter to flow back to the oil pan. (See Photos 1 &2 below)
2. Jack up the car and remove plastic engine covers on the bottom of the car with 8mm socket.**
3. Located oil pan drain plug and remove plug with 1/2" socket (See Photo 3 below) Make sure you have the oil collection pan under drain, because the oil will come flowing out fast.**
4. As the oil is draining out, remove the oil filter from engine bay.
5. Remove oil filter cartridge (this may take a little force) and three rubber o-rings. Replace oil filter cartridge and replace the three o-rings (See Photo 4 below) Coat the new o-rings with some new oil.
6. Install drain plug with new washer and tighten to the proper torque spec (24N/m) or 1/2 turn past finger tight.
7. Install oil filter into engine bay. DO NOT over tighten! Tight to the proper torque spec (24 N/m) or if you do NOT have a torque wrench tight a 1/4 turn past hand tight.
8. Remove oil cap and input 5.25 quarts of oil using the funnel. (The reason why you should NOT add the entire 5.8 quarts is because there is still some residual oil in the engine and it's not good to over fill. You can easly add oil, pain to take it out)
9. After putting in 5.25 qts, turn ignition key to position 2 (radio and heater/AC comes on) for 10 seconds. This will allow the oil pump to start pumping the oil into the empty filter. Then start the engine and let it run for one minute and turn off car and remove key.
10. Re-Intsall plastic engine covers on the bottom of the car with 8mm socket and lower jack(s). **
