SOURCE: car goes in limp mode when seeing boost

Some K&N air filters are an "oil-soaked" filter and it is that oil that can cause the problem you are having. If you want to be sure, remove the filter, clear the code(s) then drive the car. If the code(s) do not return, install a non-oil-soaked filter.

SOURCE: how to remove the door panel on a 2005 grand prix

Just an philips screw, you'll need to remove screws that are by the door handle, arm rest, under door and side of door and then gently pull back on the panel as there will also be retaining clips attached and you don't want to break them.

If needed, you can pull back the weather seal (can't reuse it, but it's not that important) and you will be able to access everything inside the door.

Hope helped with this (remember rated this).

SOURCE: 2005 pontiac grand prix, code p0641 came on. What

DTC P0641 The powertrain control module (PCM) provides a 5-volt reference to the following sensors:

The throttle position (TP) sensor 1
The accelerator pedal position (APP) sensor 2
The engine cooling fan speed sensor
The AC pressure sensor
The fuel tank pressure (FTP) sensor
The oil pressure sensor (OPS)
The PCM monitors voltage on the 5-volt reference circuit. If the voltage is higher or lower than required, DTC P0641 will set.

Conditions for Setting the DTC
The PCM detects a voltage that is higher or lower than required on the 5-volt reference circuit. The above condition is present for 1 second. Action Taken When the DTC Sets The control module illuminates the malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) when the diagnostic runs and fails. The control module records the operating conditions at the time the diagnostic fails. The control module stores this information in the Freeze Frame/Failure Records.
Conditions for Clearing the MIL/DTC The control module turns OFF the malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) after 3 consecutive ignition cycles that the diagnostic runs and does not fail. A current DTC, Last Test Failed, clears when the diagnostic runs and passes. A history DTC clears after 40 consecutive warm-up cycles, if no failures are reported by this or any other emission related diagnostic. Clear the MIL and the DTC with a scan tool.

Yes i can be dangerous, depending which issues mentioned above has triggered the code such as a faulty gas peddle position sensor. the code can also cause a reduced engine power to activate.

Thank you for using Fixya and best advice is to have the dealer address these issues. A tech 2 scanner would be needed to address the P0641 DTC code.

The limp home mode is engaged when an error is logged that could be potentially damaging to the engine, mis-firing is a good example. Before replacing expensive components at random in the vain attempt to hit upon a cure I would suggest that you have the error codes read at Autozone. It could be that you have a dodgy crank sensor but until you have the error codes hold off from acting on my speculation. You might have a pile of codes but an error in one area can cause a cascade of downstream errors so do not be down hearted if you are faced with a list.

2000 Gran Prix, 180,000 miles, not shifting into overdrive, no slipping of transmission about 3400 rpm at 65mph, can you drive it in the 3rd gear ?

You can till you burn up the transmission. The car not going to 4th could be your in the limp mode, there is something wrong with the engine or transmission and the ECM has put the car in limp mode. If there is a Auto Zone around your area, have the car scanned for DTC codes causing your ECM to run under limp mode. Keep an eye on your transmission fluid, if it started to burn ( dark Burgundy color ) service the transmission and hope you did not burn too much of your clutch in your clutch pack. Keep me posted, and good luck be glad to help.

2001 grand prix v6 check engine light stays on

Have you tried disconnecting the battery for at least 30 minutes? This is sometimes the case and the computer just needs to reboot. If that doesn't work, your o2 sensor has probably gone bad. Its not an expensive fix. Leaving the check engine light on puts the computer into a setting called "limp mode". Limp mode is a safety to prevent damage to your vehicle. In this case the computer thinks there is something wrong and by going into limp mode tends to give you less gas mileage and less power performance as well.
