SOURCE: Steering wheel hard to turn. repairman said it

$775.00 to 875.00 New. Not much difference to go used. For any warranty issues dont go used unless it's way cheeper.

SOURCE: 2004 chev silverado ext cab. No Power steering

Hi Hollings,

You description was very good, I need to ask for a specific.

When you turn to the left, the wheel is stiff like the engine is off or does it turn smoothly but the vehicle doesn't turn or seem to respond.

I'm trying to rule out broken mounts,

Also, if the wheel is all the way to the right, is it difficult turning back to the left the whole way, or half way. See where I'm going.?

Please comment back your findings

Best regards
Mike

SOURCE: the steering colume is loose on 1987 chev pickup

You will now have to remove the large screws (usually 3) that holds the upper column together, and be careful because there is usually a bearing at the top of the column housing when you pull it apart, and if they drop out you will have to put them all back into their carrier cage with some grease to hold the bearings in place when you re-attach the upper coulmn.

As soon as the upper steering column has been removed you should see the culprit, and it will be 4 little reverse torx head bolts that hold the carrier assembly together around the steering shaft pivot.

You should use the correct reverse torx bit with a 1/4" drive ratchet and extension, to remove and replace those carrier housing bolts. and it should be done one bolt at a time. (you might also need a 1/4" drive swivel) You should clean the bolt threads on the bolt and in the carrier assembly with some brake cleaner in a spray can to remove any grease or oils from the threads, and then use the medium grade blue "lock-tite" thread locker on the bolts when you re-install them.

2002 impala the audio controls on the steering wheel stopped working

it could be your clockspring; it carries multiple electrical signals to and from the steering wheel (audio controls, horn, airbag). the wheel has to be removed to gain access to it for replacement, but it can be tested without removal. the easiest way to test it is with a diagnostic tool
