I had a similar problem. When I was driving on highway with 70 mph, the car suddenly stalled everything went off. I managed to get off the road then I tried to start the car, it did not start. After 5 minutes I tried again and it started running but after several hours it stopped while driving again. Took it to the dealer, had the ignition switch changed and it solved the problem. Costed $300. ( There is also a recall on all 99 Acuras for the switch. Mine had been replaced so they did not treat it as a recall. If yours was never replaced you can have it replaced for free)

Losing RPMs while Steering to the Right

Check for wiring that moves when you turn the wheel. The harness may be tangled in the steering linkage. This could be under the car or under the dash by the steering column. It could even be the ignition switch wiring.

our son has a 96 manual that had linkage issues (retainer clip went away) $6 fix, you might check linkage to see if it is going into neutral due to clip missing or even engine mount loose allowing linkage to move. good luck

Does this trips the check engine lamp to store a code? If possible you should take the Vehicle near a local auto parts store to have the code retrived. How many miles are on your vehilce?

The engine in my 1997 Olds LSS dies intermittently while driving. Sometime it will restart and the vehicle will surge. Usually I have to put it in Neutral and restart. Any idea what the problem is?

Yes, next time this happens, check to see if a light pops up on the dash that says security. If so, check out this link. http://vatspasslockpasskeysecurityhelp.yolasite.com/

Car stops moving in reverse gear

Sounds like the car is just slipping out of gear. Keep your hand on the shifter when you back up next time. See if you can feel the shifter move when the car comes out of gear. If the shifter moves up when it happens keep pressure on the shifter holding it back like you dont want it to move forward. And of course if the shifter moves back when it comes out of gear, put forward pressure on the shifter so it doesnt slip out. This might work for now but but i know i wouldnt want to spen 700 for that ****. Let me know how it goes.

1997 Pontiac Sunfire (automatic) transaxle

I do not know what you are looking at in the manual, but you probably heard a horrible noise when you put it into park, as the parking pawl tries to hold the car in place. Thist usually does not harm the transaxle. If the engine won't start then something else happened, perhaps the neutral safety switch was damaged or knocked out of adjustment. You might try to move the shifter back and forth and then back into park and then try to restart. If that doesn't work try to put the car in neutral to start. If you must have the car towed somewhere the repair should not be expensive, just have them reset the neutral safety switch.
