Question about Chrysler Town and Country

Van will not start...been sitting a while

Van drove fine when I parked it in my driveway. Haven't driven it for several months. Now turns over fine but will not start. Tried starter fluid and it catches and starts but dies when I press accelerator. Any ideas out there?? Poor disabled girl here, trying to sort this out.

would the fuel pump go bad just from sitting?

If it is bad gas, would adding fresh gas help, or just mess things up further?

they can go bad from sitting if your fuel tank was almost empty it could have gummed up the filter not the filter but the screen on the fuel pump turn everything else off turn your key for word but do not start it listen for your fuel pump to home leave your door open so you can hear it if you hear it humm the fuel pump is good if it starts with starting fluid that's a good sign should be a minor problem

You started fluid to get it running what is running it may start sucking fuel on its own otherwise you'll need to get your fuel system flushed

SOURCE: gmc safari van cranks over, but will not fire up

I had the same problem with my 2000 GMC Safari two years ago....drove me CRAZY!

Sometimes it would start right up...other times it just would crank and not start.

It turned out to be a cracked coil....I found it by using a spray bottle with water in it, and "misting" the engine, at night....with the engine running. (On a night when it DID start!)

It took a while, but finally the hairline crack let in some water and the electrical short showed by a spark coming out of the coil.

I replaced the coil with a new one, and it has never "not started" since.

Evidently the coil cover gets brittle and develops small, hairline cracks due to heat from the engine.

Oh...by the way....I tested the coil it showed that it was fine!....but it took the "misting" at night...in the dark...to find the spark "leaking" out.

My van won't start after driving a short distance, it will start again after 3 to 5 minutes but then will act like it's going to stall while I'm driving. What's wrong?

Hi Greg, I'm AL the owner of Big As Auto Repair in St Charles Mo

Greg, I read your complete message, but nowhere did I see that you replaced the Cam Sensor. The EGR will cause it to stall at stops but usually will not prevent it from restarting. I would try replacing the Cam Sensor before anything else. If you should need further assistance go to my website by clicking here: Auto Repair

I have a automatic transmission and my van will not go into drive or reverse..

Assuming it is a 4L60E trans. The first thing to do is change the filter & replace the fluid. Have the shop check the fluid pressure. Other than that there are numerous things that could cause your problem. Could be the torque convertor on it's way out. P.S.There is no timing belt in a transmission.

No not at all. The problem may be with the anti-theft system. Sometimes in older cars, especially Dodges', the theft system starts to act up even though you put the key in the ignition. You may want to have it checked out at the dealership, shouldn't cost that much just to have it looked at.
