If it is front wheel drive pulled the tire and hub assembly off should pop right out if it is rear wheel drive there are nuts and bolts holding it in really easy to do should be four on the front and four on the back in a rear wheel drive

you will have to contact a shop that repairs cv joints and drive shafts
genuine ( same as generic) will be expensive
the real cost will be to remove the drive shaft to fit the boots
however there is a boot that can be fitted over the cv joint with removing the shaft
lot cheaper and con be done by anyone with a bit knowledge and tools
available from cv joint shops or some auto spares shops

Cv boot failure


The best thing to do is completely remove the front drive shaft (assuming you are talking about the front CV boots).
1) Jack up the front end of the vehicle.2) Remove front wheel(s), track rod ends and slacken [don't remove completely just yet] the centre hub nut and remove split pin.3) With the gear in neutral, and using an appropriately sized round punch and hammer, punch out the location pin from the drive shaft where the drive shaft meets the gearbox output shafts.4) With the assistance of a flat screwdriver, lever and pull the drive shafts off the gearbox output shafts and let them drop down. 5) Using a rubber mallet, hammer the drive shaft through the front hub. You kept the nut on the end of the shaft initially so as to prevent damage to the drive shaft threads during hammering. This nut will have to be backed off and eventually removed as the shaft slides through and out of the hub unit.
With the entire shaft removed from the vehicle:
1) Cut off or slacken and remove any rubber boot retaining clips.2) slide the rubber boot(s) towards the centre of the shaft.3) Remove the inner joint first by using a small, flat screwdriver to flick out the retaining wire from the inner lip of the joint. (Keep this wire)4) Slide off inner joint cup and clean.
5) Locate the spring clip from the inner end of the shaft and carefully remove without over-stretching. if you have no replacement.
6) Slide off inner C.V. joint, and clean.
7) Remove damaged boot(s), clean all components, re-grease with LM grease and replace.
8) Reinstallation is the opposite of removal steps.


Note: Take care when re-installing drive shaft to gearbox output shaft. This will usually only align to a single position. Before tapping retaining pin back into place, visually inspect alignment of the shaft's holes. You can use your round punch to help align the holes before re-installation of the retaining pin.


Tip: With the removal of the front drive shafts, it may be a good opportunity to also replace front gearbox output oil seals and front wheel bearing-drive shaft dust seals. These are fairly inexpensive and may prolong the life of components as well as reduce the need for repetitive removal of parts.

You shouldn't have to replace the whole shaft. Go to auto Zone or Advance Auto Parts and tell them you need the Rear u-joint for the Drive Shaft of that vehicle and they should have it. The replacement process is a little tedious but can be done. Get the Haynes repair Manual on your vehicle, while your there at the Auto parts store, and look up the Drive Shaft. It will tell you how to remove, inspect and if needed replace the U-Joints on your drive shaft. If in fact for some reason, and I have never seen or heard of this, the U-Joints can't be replaced the Manual will tell you. Because they are usually pressed in on the shaft itself some say you have to replace the whole thing but they can normally be removed with a little muscle.

How do I change the cv axle on the right side of a 2000 esteem


Answers to questions such as these may already have been answered in here under the same vehicle of a different year. In this case I have previously given the following answer for a 1998 Esteem/Baleno.

"If I remember correctly, to remove the RH shaft from a manual version of this car, you don't actually need to remove the part of the shaft that comes out of the gearbox. For an auto, you may have to, but see what it looks like under there, and you'll soon know. With either trans, you'll have to undo the main drive shaft nut (after un-staking the nut with a narrow chisel) and this is easier with 2 people - one to stand on the brake pedal, the other to jump on the breaker bar. This is a normal RH threaded nut - just really tight. Next, the nut has to be removed from the horizontal bolt that goes through the bottom of the RH steering knuckle just above the suspension arm. Once the bolt is removed, you can push down on the suspension arm to disengage the ball joint from the knuckle. Now would be a good time to remove the clip retaining the hydraulic brake line to the strut to avoid stretching the brake line. Next, turn the steering wheel fully to the left, and while pulling the front of the disc outwards as well, tap the drive shaft inwards with a soft (copper or nylon) hammer. If the shaft hasn't rusted in place, this will be easy. If it has rusted, you'll know fairly quickly, and the job has just got a lot more complicated. I won't cover the "worst case scenario" here as it will get messy! Once the outer CV is disengaged, it's just a question of removing the inner CV. For a manual, the inner CV slides onto a splined shaft that runs almost the length of the engine sump and is held into the gearbox by a bracket bolted to the engine block with 3 bolts. These don't need to be removed. With your soft hammer, tap outwards on the inner CV joint while your helper keeps tension on the shaft while rotating it. This will probably be the shaft removed from the car. If your drive shaft is one piece all the way to the gearbox, then you will actually need to lever the inner out of the (auto) trans - also while your helper turns the shaft. Unless you drain it, you will lose some oil when the drive shaft comes out of the box. The manual filler plug is on the other side of the diff, and autos need to be filled from the trans dipstick tube (check while running). A hoist makes this job very much easier."

Balenos or Esteems were available from 1995 - 2001 depending on market of course.

How do you remove hub to replace universal joint on 2500 dodge ram hemi heavy duty 2004


Mark position of drive shaft and yoke - to install in the same position (not to upset balance)
Remove and discard small "U" bolts on yoke Slide drive shaft up spline end to dislodge drive shaft from yoke.
You can either "beat" U join out of shaft, but better to bring to auto parts store that has a machine shop to install new joint
Use new "U" bolts to install
Make sure "U" joint is fully seated in yoke and installed in same position as removed

Change a cv boot on a 1996 isuzu trooper


First their are two different front axles in 1996 troopers. Isuzu changed the 4wd system from auto lock hubs to drive control axle.auto lock hube are on the older trooper's with the light and wiper switches on the dash. The same way to change both. Auto hub remove the six hex. screws slide off the hub remove the sirclip from the driveshaft. Newer hub has 6 alan-head screw's again remove them then the hubcap then the sirclip on the shaft and slide off the round spacer. Next 4 bolts from the lower balljoint and the brake's. Pull out the hub until it clear's the shaft remove the inner boot clips slide the inner boot out the shaft. Clean the grease from the end of the axle then with your fingernail feel along any of the 3 tracks in the axle and near the outer end of the track you will find a wirelike split ring slide a screwdriver under the ring and lever it off . Pull out the drive clean off the grease. You will see a sirclip on the end of the joint remove it and slide off the joint. You can replace either boot from that end. The outer joint is held on with a snap ring on the shaft inside the joint and is not easily removed need a hammer and drift to drive off the end and when removed its hard to get the snap ring on the shaft back into its place.You can change both boots from this end as well. You can remove the front drive shaft but not the cv's or your wheel bearing will blow apart

If your looking to replace them, wich is what most do today, it is cheaper to purchase a axle with new cv joints than to rebuild them. It is a very simple job in todays cars, remove tires remove lower tie rod , remove nut in center of the rotor and pull wheel assembley to the side hanging from the strut, pull axle out replace the transmission seal, push new axle in. When putting wheel assembley on, use a hydraulic jack on bottom of the rotor to push it to the axle splines and put the new nut on .

Rear transmission leak


it sounds like you have a tail shaft seal gone in the transmission it's not a difficult fix if you are handy. Remove the drive shaft and remove the tail stock seal(there are install and removal tools but a hammer and a screwdriver will remove it nicely)then replace with new seal (if you don't have the install tool a 5" long piece of 2x4 and a hammer works BE GENTLE!!!!)and reinstall drive shaft..........these seals are available at your local auto parts store and are usually no more tan $10.00
