Question about 2004 Ford Escape
My car has been doing this for a while, it doesn't happen every time but sometimes when I brake and then try to go (stop signs, red lights, etc.) it will turn off, I am able to put it in neutral and turn it back on without powering the whole thing down but I am not sure what the actual issue is. I have taken it into various shops and no one seems to know what it is. Anyone here know/can help? Thanks!
I need more info on this vehicle, year,m make, model, auto trans/ manual trans, two wheel or four wheel drive. Also what the other shops did to test it's systems?

Have you tried adding a couple of bottles of "heet" If you are in cold weather, and your car has been parked for extended periods, the gas tank and lines can retain moisture...also a can of fuel system injector cleaner is a plus...both are inexpensive, and routine maintenance...Has anyone inspected your underhood vacumn lines for cracks or leaks? A vacumn leak can also create this problem...Hope this helps.

Hi, you have suffered a major electrical short here, and the car is telling you via the light signals that you need to take care of this in a garage. The original short burnt cables, which is why there is visible signs of melting, smell etc. I know it will involve a cost, but consider the value of your life if the car was to go on fire with you or your family in it? Another short will cause such a fire, get to a garage soon!

sounds like the torque converter lock up might not be disengaging. You might also want to check for engine vacuum leaks. Does engine idle smoothly when in park or nuetral ? if the idle is good I would suspect torque converter problem.

You are the MAN, Just like you said TRocky, there was a short in the center brake light wiring. Found the short in the rubber boot that connects from the lift gate to the car. Inside that rubber boot the wires were cracked and some were shorting.Repaired the wiring and everything is back to normal.
