If the pedal is operating the clutch and its not a hydraulic problem then you do the mechanics trick of the trade ,warm up engine then turn it off ,now selsct first gear -handbrake off and start car in gear and drive with foot on clutch ,jerk the car a bit with the throttle and the clutch will release in the first hundred metres or so ,well they normally do anyway

SOURCE: GEARBOX WONT GO INTO GEAR

hi from uk could you please give a little more info ? what make/model car ? has this problem occured suddenly? has car been layed up off road some time prior to this unable to select gears ? this problem sounds very much like the clutch drive plate is either stuck to flywheel hence question above ? or it is sticking on primary/spigot shaft for some reason and failing to disengage drive to g/box? how does clutch pedal feel ? you might try selecting 2nd gear with clutch fully pressed and h/brake on then try starting engine if engine starts ?runs then put slight revs on and slip clutch a few times this may work if plate is sticking? if you come back with update may be able to advise further

SOURCE: clutch pedal stays on floor when released

check the helper spring on the clutch pedal. You'll have to get down in the driver's footwell and using a flashlight look at the mechanism while you push the pedal down (and pull up). If the spring isn't missing or broken and everything looks okay, then change the clutch master cylinder. The piston in the cylinder is probably binding due to corrosion in the bore. I have an 1986 and had the same problem. Changing the clutch master cylinder fixed it.

Just replaced the clutch and still wont engage or disengage

It can't both not engage and not disengage? If you can't put it in gear even with the engine shut off than there is something wrong with the transmission internally. Let me know if you have any questions and I'll do my best to answer them. Thank you for using FixYa.com!

Clutch not going into gear. Had new clutch put in just last year.

I dont quite understand what you mean . The clutch releases you transmission from the engine to allow shifting.

If you mean it wont release maybe its not the clutch maybe its the slave cylinder which pushes it or the master cylinder which is connected to the pedal. If its a cable maybe the cable is out of adjustment.

hi from uk the fact you mention that clutch is fully up b4 vehicle drives ? is a sure sign that clutch is coming to end of its life considering age of vehicle?and presume high milage? may i suggest that you consider replacing the clutch assy as soon as you are able ? reason being the clutch plate linings could suddenly disintigrate from its riveted disc and still give some drive but this will result in serious damage to the more expensive flywheel i have removed clutch assy's on vehicles over the years that have allthough still driving the clutch linings had completely shredded ! with need to replace a heavily scored/cracked flywheel costing excessively more than clutch assy SO please cosider what i have explained and save more expense and possible breakdown when you need vehicle most ? especially b4 the winter sets in ? stitch in time ???saves $$$$s best wishes from n/west uk

Please save me from CLUTCH HELL

Have your mechanic ck for a possible issue with the pilot bearing. if the clutch linkage is indeed full travel, then the clutch should be "disengaged" and the only thing left is a pilot bearing (which should be replaced at every clutch replacement) or there is a problem with the disc. If clutches dont last 100k miles it either the driver or cheap parts.
