Question about 1998 Hyundai Tiburon

1998 Hyundai Tiburon wont start after valve replacement and timing belt change

Had a blown timing belt, so changed the valves, machined shopped the motor, the whole works. Car started right away and we shut it off after a minute. Next day my mechanic changed the oil, filter, new spark plugs and cables and thermostat sensor. Car just turned over but didn't start. Thought it was the starter so bought a brand new starter and still nothing. Checked the Cam sensor, the fuel pump and the plugs etc. Everything seems to be working and the plugs are getting electric. The fuel pump is spinning, the starter is working etc. It runs for a second when we put in carb injection cleaner and thats it. So seems the motor wants to go but isn't getting gas or something? Need help, even my mechanic is stuck. Timing belt is set correctly, plugs gapped correctly etc. He is a good mechanic (For Puerto Rico LOL) and yes, we even put gas in it! Any suggestions? Additional Details Also checked fuses and pretty much everything and anything. I assume it has to be a small little problem that drives us crazy looking for it. 3 mins ago Finally, not sure if this makes a difference but the mechanic has the front of the car up on blocks so it is essentially lifting upwards about 30 degrees while trying to start it. Maybe the fuel pump doesnt have enough power to start it on a hill?

SOURCE: do you have to change the timing belt when changing water pump

Yes thats correct the if the water pump goes so goes the timing belt even if it looks good. The timing belt is only good for 50,000 miles if you have more this then you got your moneys worth.

SOURCE: 2005 Hyundai Accent won't start

If it is the timing belt you should here misfire and this is how you check for spark, remove a lead from a plug at reach distance unloosen plug with a spark plug socket put plug into the lead you removed and hold close to something metal while someone turns the key and you should see a spark come out and hit the metal, if not try replacing the rotor button and coil.

Tiburon timing belt broke, replaced, won't start

Did you make sure you set cam & crank timing ? If the belt is off one tooth it will cause this. Recheck belt timing first.

Location of the Purge Control Valve for 1998 Hyundai Tiburon

The correct "Hyundai" term for the valve that's attached to the Vapor Canister is the "Canister Control Valve".Why don't you try to clean the old one first. They get clogged with little bits of charcoal from the canister. It's simple so see if it's bad, take it off, and try to blow through the canister side with no electric going through. You shouldn't be able to blow because the valve is supposed to be closed. If you can blow it's because the valve is clogged and hanging open. If it is clogged, you might try and clean it.

Then take the hose off from the canister and clean the hose too, you'll get a handful of charcoal out before your done. If you don't clean the hose out, you'll probably clog the valve again, even if it's new.

That's why they usually change the canister and the valve at the same time. It gets clogged because you fill the tank to the max, it floods the canister with gas, and the charcoal floats up through the hose to the valve.
