94 saturn sl bad map sensor symptoms.

I've has a bunch of problems with the engine the past 6 months. Cleaned intake, new Idle air control,TPS,cooling sensor (the 2 wire for cooling fan and computer)and presure regulator. The engine runs great almost. something tnhat happens now that I know never happened before was when really cold and lately we've had a cold snap in Houston. when it starts it has a higher rpm around 1200 and as the engine warms it eventually goes down to about 900 which is still a tad higher than since I had it for 7yrs. Normal is around 8 to 850 or so. the reason I question the idle speed at cold because when it started to do it reminded me of a choke set up on a carburetor vehicle.What's going on now is and not always I be Idleing for a while say 900 and ther is a blip and the idle will jump to about 1200 and drop right back down to 850 or 900 rpm. when this happens I get a check engine light. When the engine gets turned off and restarted the Check engine is out until next blip. Just got a code reader and engine off ignition on code for high idle (hard Code)but just got this code reader so don't have the hang of it yet about reading code but do understand 12 which is normal for reading codes or something like that.A thought maybe MAP sensor. Everything that has been changed has been somewhat for the better but the systoms were not what Im experiencing now and all parts were original except the cooling sensor. any suggestions would be appreciated. If this blip happens during an inspection it will surely fail.

Sounds like a bad Throttle position Sensor. When was the last time fuel filter changed. Start with cheapest parts first.

2002 saturn sl1 rough idle,misfire,popping sound from exhaust. replaced fuel pump,fuel filter,plugs and wires no help

My 02 did the same thing. If I were you I'd first check for vacuum leaks and check the intake manifold gasket. They are known to go bad.Take engine cleaner, or brake cleaner and spray directly onto the intake while the engine is running. This is right under the fuel rail. Spray and listen for a change in the idle. If there is any change at all, the intake manifold is bad. Spray all vacuum hoses too. If that is not the problem you should clean the TPS throttle positioning sensor, and the AIC air idle control. Also clean the throttle body. These cars are known for this too.. First take off air cleaner hose, and disconnect the battery. On the throttle body TB you will see 2 10mm bolts. Undo them and the throttle cable. Don't lose the metal gasket. Take TB off and look at the back side of it. Is it carboned up? If so, clean with same cleaner making sure the 2 vacuum hoses are clear. Take the AIC off with a #20 torx screw driver. Dont lose the rubber O Ring. Clean it up, but dont try to move the plunger. Clean inside the TB where this plunger seats. Dirt can cause your symptoms. Clean it up good scrapping the carbon off the back of TB. The TPS is right above the AIC and can also be cleaned up a bit. put it all back together and it should run right.It's usually one or the other with these engines, please let me know what your test results come up with thanks

Why does my 99 saturn sl idle erradically sometimes?

One of 4 things. Your TPS [throttle positioning sensor] IAC [ idle air sensor ] vacuum leak, or intake manifold gasket getting bad.Easy test for you to do before you get into replacing parts is as follows. Start car, and take some engine cleaner spray, and spray directly onto the gasket where the intake manifold bolts onto the block. Spray liberally. If you hear the engine RPM'S change in ANY way, your gasket is bad. These cars are well known for this. I suggest that you try this first and get back to me. If this is not it, I can walk you through the next easy tests. Let me know, but if I were a gambling man, I'd gamble on it being the intake gasket. $40, and 2 hours to do it yourself. I also made a video while I was doing my own. Let me know if this info is helpful

99 saturn loud revving sound in engine

Start the car and use a spray bottle to spray a bunch of water mist around the top back of the engine where the intake meets the head. If it starts to die you have an intake manifold leak. It\'s kind of a pain to change, but not really technical. Also, clean your throttle body and clean the idle air controller (IAC). Alos consider replacing the Throttle position sensor (TPS). Both are located on the back of the throttle body.

Engine Problem

first thing that comes to mind would be the throttle positioning sensor, or the mass air flow intake sensor on the air intake hose assembly.Symptoms of a mass airflow intake sensor would be very poor acceleration or engine dying when gas pedal is mashed hard. Throttle positioning sensor can give you and irradical idle while sitting still. You might want to have a scan to diagnose the problem.

Saturn 1999 sl Engine has a high idle speed. How do I find, replace, inspect IAC?

The Idle Air Control valve is located on the throttle body. If you follow the intake tube from your air filter all the way back to the intake manifold, where the intake tube connects to is the throttle body. Remove the intake tubing and you can see the throttle body.

There are two sensors on the throttle body and a vacuum line. You'll see two harnesses going to the throttle body, one is the IAC.

However, a quick diagnostic check can be done without touching the throttle body to confirm your problem. If the car has a normal idle when initially started but then rises to a higher idle and stays there BUT then if you were to shut the car off and restart it and it comes back to normal that is the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS). This is also located on the throttle body (the other sensor to the IAC). If it is the IAC it will be high and maybe fluctuate a bit.

Weird idle when clutch is disengaged

Sounds like a bad idle air motor (That controls idle) But you must pull compiter codes first (The computr tells it what to do)

Question? is the engine's heat normal, if not there's sensor that boosts idle when the engine is cold

If you removed the thrmostat, put it back in.FIRST
