Have heat after bleeding the coolant system at idle but go for a ride and it turns ice cold

SOURCE: i did a coolant flush and bleed the system and it overheats

On the top of the radiatorr there is a plastic screw that has a head similar to a Phillips screw, this needs to be removed to bleed the air out of the system and prevent air pockets. Take both the screw and the radiator cap off when filling the system and add your coolant to both holes. Let the car idle while filling with the heater on so the whole system is circulating and watch for the bubbles to come out. Fill the radiator right to the top, replace the two caps and you should be OK.

check to see if both hoses are hot going to your heater core if they are then core is fine.That would point to your temperature sensor.

All you need to do is fill resivior and radiator, if theres no cap on radiator then fill resivior and then start and let reach operating temp, leave cap off while topping off as engine warms replace cap and run until fans run then shut engine down and let cool after cooling remove cap start engine and add if needed, hope this helps.

Changed the radiator in the van cant get any heat


if you have just drained the cooling system to change the radiator then the system needs bleeding to get the air out of the system not knowing what vehicle you have not easy to help but most vehicles have a way to bleed the system it means getting air out off the cooling system which will be trapped

2004 Kia low heat at idle hiway speeds ok


1) Coolant tank may show full but radiator is low in coolant...Cold engine...remove cap...inspect coolant level in radiator...fill if necessary,,,
2) If #1 is OK, the coolant system has an air blockage...With cold engine remove cap...Start engine...Heat control on high... when thermostat opens coolant AND air will escape from radiator...there will be coolant loss...Wait until all air escapes then carefully replace cap...When engine cools remove cap and top off coolant if required.....saailer

Dan how do I bleed 2004 Kia coolant car temp is good but sometime at idle heater starts to blow cool hit throttle gets great heat


I agree with your logic. Attached vid addresses bleeding. Sounds like at low rpms, not enough flow to transfer the heat. So bubble or maybe a partially obstructed core. There are a couple of vids on clearing a core... GOod luck, let us know if you figure it out.

How to bleed cooling system


to bleed the cooling system on a vs supercharged statesman .

Makes sure you have coolant in the radiator and over flow botthe.

turn the heater to the on position and on high.

make sure you have plenty more coolant close by.

with the radiator cap off and the engine idling .

now top coolant up and place radiator cap on.

increase idle revs so the system pressurises.

now the system is warm and pressure .

you can open the bleeder 1 by 1 starting at the highest point.

1st couple of times you open the system you will get a lot of air ,you can stop bleeding this nipple once there is a good stream of coolant flowing.

do the same with other nipples as there is 3 bleeders in total.

Once all air is out do not open radiator cap again top coolant up in overflow bottle only.

double check coolant level again when its cold ..

you may have air in coolant system you should have a bleeding point somewhere and good idea to change pressure cab too.
Just becarefull engine coolant and heating system is a pressurized system that works on high temp. can cause a serious injuries!!Safety.
you need to run the car on idle with heat on at high speed and open and close the bleeding valve with proper size and long reach tool
till no air bubbles comeout make sure you run the car enough that thermostat opened and engine run on normal operation temp. for a while.good luck.

My temp gauge goes to the third line before fans come on and only the low fan comes on. I already replaced thermostat, engine coolant temp. sensor and radiator flush... any idea why high fans dont come on...


CHECK COOLANT FAN FUSES AND RELAYS. CHECK COOLANT LEVEL.MAKE SURE ITS NOT TOO LOW BECAUSE IF COOLANT TOO LOW . BY NO COOLANT AROUND OR COOLANT SENSOR NOT SUBMERGED IN COOLANT COOLING FANS WONT TURN ON.MAKE SURE YOU HAVE 50/50 ANTIFREEZE AND WATER. There Must Be Any Bleeding Screw On Any Hose Of Coolant, After adding Coolant Keep Open that Bleeding Screw For A 15min With Idle Speed It Will Help To Remove Air From Cooling system., Then Check Temp Sensor OF Radiator That May Got Problem , Only Tow Things Could Be The Problem. Thanks

My 2002 Ford Thunderbird is overheating. Have changed the thermostat but still overheats. My 2002 Thuderbird is overheating....had the Hydraulic Cooling Fan replaced 3 months ago.


You most likely have air in the system. These things can be a royal pain to get the air bleed out of the system.
Look back next to the brake booster and you will see a rubber tube with a screw cap in the end of it(this is the heater bleed), also on the front of the intake area you will see a black tube with an allen sloted cap.
Remove the slotted cap and screw the screw cc on the rubber tube. Add coolant to the coolant jug allowing the system to equalize until no more coolant can be added. Add as much coolant as possible to the engine fill( the sloted cap near intake). The heater air bleed will remain open.Replace the engine fill cap.Start the engine and turn the heater to MAX position.Close the heater air bleed when a steady stream of coolant comes from it, during engine idle. Allow the engine to idle for five minutes, add coolant to the degas bottle as needed to maintain the cold fill MAX mark.Reopen the heater air bleed to release any entrapped air and close again. Maintain engine speed of 2,000 rpm for 3-5 minutes or until hot air comes from the heater.Return to idle and verify hot air is still coming from the heater. Set the heater temperature setting to 75° F and allow the vehicle to idle for two minutes.Shut the engine off and allow to cool.After the engine has cooled, add coolant to the degas bottle to bring the level to the cold fill MAX mark. This should have the air out of the system.

Heater issues


right beside the degas bottle top thare is a black hose sticking out that has a screw in plug in it that can be removed with a straight screw driver. remove this plug and start vehicle and let it run with heat wide open and on high till a STEADY stream of coolant is presant then replace plug - dont over tighten. this bleeds the heater core.
