Ford laser distributor

Hi I was driving down the road and 180 meters away from where I was going to my car stopped, I tried to start it but it wouldn't start so I asked someone to help push the car off the road...I walked to where I was going thinking out of gas...got some gas put it in, it started then it stopped, so it started again but died again...Get it towed up the road to the house I was visiting then someone comes to have a look at it takes the belts off it, plays around with the cam belt not taking it off then after putting the belts back on...it starts up stops and now it won't even start...do you have any idea what it could be ...before someone did what he did...I was thinking maybe points again

SOURCE: I have a 2000 ford windstar that I bought last

You have O2 Sensor Codes

I believe you have a bad fuel pump,
thus low pressure and the O2 Sensors,
set a lean fault code

Check fuel pressure at the rail when you turn
the key to start or it is running

Changing spark plugs is something that
never has to be done to find out what issues
you have.
You could throw away a couple and it should start

Also NO Parts EVER get Changed until
TESTED and found to be bad

Sounds like you could possibly have a faulty ignition control module, which is mounted on the side of the distributor. When these modules get old they break-down when they get hot.

My Ford Bronco 2 keeps stalling and acting like its going to die when I am driving down the road. I rev up the engine and it will qiut for a minute and then start stalling again. This also happens when I...

The bronco II was discontinued over 20 years ago so you are driving an antique. Any number of things could thus be wrong with it, most of which will cost more than its value to repair. Every part on every car ever made will fail due to age and/or use. In any event I had one, V-6 type, long ago and they had bad distributors and were prone to vacuum leaks. So I would first put some thought into finding and eliminating any potential vacuum leaks, the brake booster hose frequently went bad on mine. You can't find these in junkyards anymore, but you may be able to find a new distributor on eBaY.

I am assuming that you have had the distributor out, have reinstalled it, and are now trying to get your engine ready to start. If you have installed your distributor 180 degrees out, you need to lift it back out of the hole, turn your rotor 180 degrees and reinstall it. NOTE: by doing this, you will probably turn the oil pump drive slightly. This will make it impossible to drop the distributor right in. You will need to either turn the pump shaft (if you have the appropriate tool), or go around patiently with your distributor, setting it down in one notch at a time, until it is in the correct position. BTW, I do not know of any GMC product where #8 is 180 degrees from #1, so don't go any further unless you are sure you know what you're doing. #8 is usually right next to #1

Truck will stop going down the road for no reason, sometimes will restart sometimes not. Changed fuel pump, crank sensor, fuel tank. Started up went for test drive put back in garage won't start now?

Hi and welcome to FixYa!

Does the engine crank? If it does crank but won't turn then the problem will be on the distributor coil pack. If it doesn't even click then the problem will be on the ignition coil. Have it both checked and replace if necessary.

Hope you find this information helpful enough and thank you for using FixYa! Have a good one!

best thing to do is take it to your ford dealer, they will plug it into their system and run a diagnostic check, any issues or problems will come up and they can tell you whats wrong and fix it straight away.

I am driving down the road and for no reason the engine stalls

Hi BigJoe,

Have you had any issues with your keys/ignition?

I have a Cherokee and a Wrangler. The Cherokee's ignition switch started getting flaky a while back. Sort of doing what you describe.

On mine, engine would die, dash lights out, like the ignition was turned off.

I'd give the tilt a bang and everything was back to normal. I got a replacement at a junk yard for $5.00.

The key symptom is, do the dash lights go out when the engine dies?

If not, disregard.
