4x4 does not engage

2006 Nissan Titan...bought used. I don't know anything about a slip light indicator, but my break light has come on a couple of times when the truck slid on ice...the 4WD light flashed. It will not engage in 4wd. I took it to a local garage and they ran a computer analysis and said the rear speed sensor has an open circuit and that I have a massive air leak in the VAP...said that it pulls vacuum from the fuel tank? So my problem is that the 4wd does not work, and I have a sorta rough idle. Has anyone else ran into these issues? Thanks

If it's the 4 LO light flashing in all the 4x4 switch positions, or if you have it in park and the ATP light is on, your ATP switch might be bad, or a loose connection to it. There is a TSB on this for '04 Titans athttp://x.nissanhelp.com/forums/Knowl...html?catid=160.......HOPE THIS HELP YOU OUT

SOURCE: My 2006 Nissan Titan Slip light comes on at start

Most likely a wheel speed sensor starting to go bad, possably a wiring or Modual Issue.

You would have to pull the code with the light lit to tell you were to start the Diagnosis.

4WD does not operate, no lite, no anything

Check out the knob. The backside may be cracked and the knob may be slipping around the shaft instead of turning it.

Some models had a problem with the indicator light for the 4x4. If the light burns out, the electric values to the transfer case shift solenoid will change. The single solenoid moves different lengths based on selector position and voltage.

Check the Voltage at the transfer case with power on and someone turning the shift knob.

You can get wiring diagrams through a Google search. Use terms like "2006 F150 wiring diagrams" or similar. Some are really good but be careful with "snapshot" groups as they are not strongly indexed and results contain mixed Brands and years.

My 2008 Nissan titan will not engage in 4x4 high but will engage 4x4 low. There is also a grinding noise when I try 4x4 on the fly. The light comes on and say it is engaged but it doesn't really engage....

There may be a problem with the syncro rings in the 4x4 high section of the box. It may have something to do with you driving technique by not allowing the synchro rings a chance to bring the mating gear up to speed. When the change is required it should be done at a relative low speed wit either a brake in the accelerator pedal ( lifting the foot for a second) or a clutch disengagement (pushing the clutch in and out for a second). This breaks the load on the gear teeth and allows for the change to be completed

My brake, slip and VDC indicators stay on.

Check brake fluid level, add fluid from sealed container if needed.

Also check for leaking rear axle seals. Look for oil on the inside of rear wheels.
