White puffs of smoke from the drivers side more near the cowl are

I can smell smoke coming from the vets as I drive, not enough to see any. When I pulled into the driveway and hit the breaks a puff of white smoke billoowed from the hood nearer the cowl area than the front. I openned the hood but didnt see anymore smoke and only a faint odor coming from the rear of the motor. Nothing from the front. Sometimes it smells like oil and sometimes it smells like coolant/breaks or a mix.

Lose of power and low fuel consumption and puffs white smoke when driving dtc showing code p1386

The white smoke is a concern. When there is white smoke present after the engine has reached operating temperature, this can be a sign of antifreeze getting into the combustion system. That can come from a couple of places depending on the vehicle. The most common place is from a leaking head gasket. If this engine has at one time been significantly over heated that is a strong possibility.
The mixing of coolant with the combustion can also cause very poor performance and stalling.

One of the tell tale signs of coolant in the combustion area is a sweet acrid smell from the exhaust, similar to the smell of maple syrup.

If this is the case the only permanent solution is a head gasket replacement and head reconditioning. This is a major expense and undertaking.

White smoke when reved up. No loss of fluids or coolant in the oil. Just oil-like smell burning out the tailpipe with big puff of white smoke

White smoke on startup could be a head gasket leak between the water jacket and the cylinder. Won't always show in the oil. Antifreeze makes it smell oily or sweet. Compression test will tell for sure. Bluish is oil that was burned. White is usually water or oil into exhaust after combustion.

1992 lumina apv smells hot, does not register hot

White smoke means water/antifreeze entering the combustion chamber(s) or intake passages. Suspect a gasket leak somewhere (tighten all intake manifold nuts and bolts). Check all radiator and heater hoses for leakage and hose condition.
