Re: turn the key and nothing happens,no crank,no sound,no...
It seems that you have a loose wire, bad connector or perhaps the main computer itself that is causing a problem If the shop is not seeing any codes, or codes come and go, likely I'm right...but someone is going to have to actually do some intensive testing to find the real cause. You can likely get another computer from a local scrapyard far cheaper than what the dealer will charge you...as far as wiring, you need a good accurate schematic a good volt/ohmeter and lots of time to trace wiring. When checking connectors test the pin, then probe the wire going into the pin...often the problem is where a wire meets the backside of the pin, either corroding or breaking..This also applies to any modules such as the security system...what you see on the dash does not always tell you that connection to components is good. This is not a "fix, but rather, a direction to go in. (exactly what I"d need to do if I was there) Right now, everything is suspect including fuel system, till you rule it out!!!

The security ( anti-theft ) system on that vehicle will not cause a no crank , depending on what you think a no crank is . Turning the key to start an nothing happens is a no crank - no start condition . Now if you turn the key to start an the starter engauges an spins the engine over but won't start an run ,this is a crank no start condition . Two different type problems all together . How did you reset system ? Disconnect the battery ?
Will not crank how ? What happens when you turn the key to the start position ? Nothing or the engine spins around ? Does the security light flash fast ? anti-theft system problem . Anti-theft system problem will keep the engine from cranking .
Won't start how ? crank - no - start or no - crank - no -start . In other words ,when you turn the key to start does the starter engage an spin the engine but doesn't start an run ? Or when you turn the key nothing happens ? Any light's lit on the instrument cluster ? security - anti-theft system . Sorry but sounds like you should have a qualified repair shop check it out .
It depends on what make , model and year and to what computers are involved in the control of starting the vehicle ! When you turn the key to the start position ,does anything happen ? (engine sipns over ) not start and run just spins or not This is call a crank no start condition . Or does nothing happen ? This is called a no crank no start condition . Is there a security light lit on the insturment cluster ?
This may be related to the antitheft system The system is known for turning off the starter and/or injectors when it fails. Is there a light on the dash that says SECURITY? This is a common problem worth looking into. http://www.diy-gm-security.com/
Antitheft or Security system failure is a common problem on GM vehicles. Every time you put your key in the ignition, the vehicle's security system reads the signal from your key to make sure it is OK to run. When it receives the "correct key" signal, the security system allows the starter to turn over, and/or the fuel injectors to function and your car works like it normally does every day. If you were to use a different key, or try to hot wire it, the system would shut down these parts of your car, thus making the vehicle completely immobile. This is GM's way of preventing vehicle theft. The problem is that the system is known to fail quite commonly. It has been failing consistently for around 30 years. When it fails, two things can happen. First, you turn the key and nothing happens at all. Lights work, radio works, windows work... just not the starter that you need to start the vehicle. This is a "starter immobilizer". Second, you turn the key and the vehicles starts just fine, but then stalls in 2-5 seconds. This is a "fuel immobilizer". It literally cuts off the fuel injectors and stalls the vehicle to immobilize it. These are normally, but not always followed by a light on the dash that says SECURITY or ANTITHEFT. These lights are to inform you of the system's failure to collect the information it needs from your key to the computer. If your security/antitheft light is on, odds are you will be stranded soon, if not already. Remember that the security system controls the security light. If the system is failing, the light may never warn you of the failure. There is a lot of info on this site that you can read up on. http://vatspasslockpasskeysecurityhelp.yolasite.com/
If all of the fuses inside the car and in the engine compartment are good, you will need to check the key switch to see if it is providing power to these circuits. You will need a repair manual to get the wiring diagrams. It's possible the car had a security system and it has failed, or a relay is dead, but I would start with the key switch.
It sounds like your security system is causing this. Does the red security light flash when this happens? It could be an incorrect key or defective key The key has a chip in it .The wrong key or defective key will cause this. It may have to go to a dealer to program or test your key.
