I have owned my 97 Trooper for about 5 years now and other than light maintenance, I have not really had any major mechanical issues at all. Change the oil every 3000 miles and have it tuned up regularly. Recently my 97 Trooper had the ABS light come on and then my radio stopped playing, then my car made a noise like I had had a small blowout or something had happened to my tires. I had just seconds to pull over and then my car just quit. No juice - no turnover - headlights very dim. I had my driver seat heater on at the time, also. Had my Trooper towed by AAA to mechanic. He drove it all the next day with no problems. He checked alternator and battery - seemed to be no problems. My battery is 3 yrs old, mechanic recommended that I replace it as soon as money permits. Drove vehicle fine for one more day. Went to get in it to go to work next day and I had a flat on a 3 month old new driver side Goodyear tire. Goodyear cannot tell what caused the flat because they say the rim wore down the tire; even though the tires looked fine the night before and I hadn't driven it to my knowledge with low air pressure. They say even 10 ft driving with a low tire could have caused it. They also showed me where the boots on my av axles were separated and said I need to have this repaired ASAP for about $1200.00 and will need to be realigned. They asked if I am having any popping noises as I stear. I have not heard anything. They say the AV joint issue may also attribute to wear on the tires. In getting two other opinions from other reputable hometown repair shops, on my way home today in major traffic; my trooper made what sounded like electrical sparking; ABS light came on, radio quit, dashboard lights went out, power steering was lost, then again died. I was able to pull to the side of the road, but barely. Hardly any notice again. As strange as it seems, could these two repair issues be related? Or do I have much larger issues? I have loved this vehicle and feel very safe in it. Anyone with any advice on this issue?

It began to hesitate just prior to shifting up, and just after shifting down (it is an automatic). It doesn't do this all the time, but fairly frequently. It also sometimes idles down low and then jumps up a couple of times after putting it into park. Since this began, I have changed the spark plugs during routine maintenance, and that hasn't made any change. Aside from this, it still runs pretty strong, although it has the same engine knock that most Troopers are plagued with.
