Is this an auto or stick shifted car, ??? we can not guess this, ever.
you said, Gear, that is stick shift and A/T has no gears.
it has, R, D, 1,2,.. selections... are all 4 dead.?
shudders?
starts,
is RPM 800 or more?
you then shift to say reverse...
and step on the throttle , RPM is 800 and it advances to 1500 or more
and car moves,
does RPM go above 3000 and not move
that means , the tranny (or TCM or sensors) are bad.
if your RPM goes to 2000 and is stuck there, and car will not
move in any shifted rage, 1,2,D,L, then the brakes are iced over.
the key to this mystery is RPM. the engine RPM will tell you
what is happening,
for sure.
post it. and we can tell you.

slipping is when the tranny allows RPM to be unlimited at right foot actions.
if the brakes are frozen the RPM will be at the TC clutch stall speed
that is , about 2000rpm max and will shake there. (5sec max doing that)
see the FSM on stall speed, of your A/T
if this is a clutch car, say so, M/T stick car, say so, that be DIFFERENT/

Testimonial: "this is automatic. Engine runs fine, brakes are not frozen and they work well. Car moves in 1st but not fast. Seems like not fully engaged in gear. Then over 10 mph or so, when shifting to 2nd it shudders and wont engage."

check levels?, fuses? yet, scan it yet? but what is ENGINE RPM at 10mph, 1500 or 4000 ? what? a machanic drives car, sees RPM low, and speed low with agressive right foot, this is lost ENGINE power, but on the other hand he drives, and speed is low, and RPM screams high this is called TRANNY slip or FLARE, this is the 1s check, as you can see im blind, i can see your tachmeter or hear the engine scream, you must tell me...... the transmissions job is to move torque from the engine to the wheels, if the engine screams, and car dont go? that IS tranny slip (or rare clutch) your right foot conrols engine RPM and power, if the engine races fast , its not the engine, if going slow, see why? ,

state engine RPM at 10mph, with right foot planted. is reverse bad too? move the right foot to the floorboards, and limit max RPM to under 4000. , if it feels , sounds and looks(RPM) disconnected it IS.

level check means , open oper. guide, see A/T level check and the very unique A/T way of doing so,, it not like checking eng or a lawn mower, read the words and do it right. most dont and that is why they remove the dip sticks on cars, owners not reading the correct steps.

Why won't it start?

There should be a clutch safety switch that prevents you from cranking the engine with the clutch engaged.
Have you checked the switch for power ?

It won't turn over

Try this procedure:
Check the battery like this:
Turn on the headlights, then try to start the car.
If the headlights do not dim or go out, then the battery is likely ok.
Check that the battery cable plus post, goes to the starter, Minus post to a good ground, like the engine.
If wiring is ok, then look at the starter solenoid for a good connection, and proper voltage at the starter.
Problem is most likely the Solenoid's bendix gear or starting relay, Have someone bang on the starter while you try to start the car. This usually works by dislodging the bendix gear..
Hope this helps.

Ford focus won't turn over ,was fine this morning parked up now won't start getting whinning sound from side of engine

If the temperature is low, then the engine might have struck up. You need to give heat and then try starting. If you still face the problem, then open the front and check if any wires have been cut off or else call or an mechanic to solve the problem,

Thanks

Pickup starts great, goes into all gears but won't move. It's like it is still in nutural.

Assuming the pickup is an automatic, check the transmission fluid. The #1 cause for transmission slippage is lack of Automatic Transmission Fluid.

If the pickup is a standard shift, the pin that connects the shift to the transmission has likely broken. You would still be able to shift from the inside but the gears won't engage. A bad clutch is also a possibility but you would have noticed a burning smell prior to the clutch giving out.
