The adjustment is on the bottom of each drum park brake behind the rear rotor.
There's a hole in the rotor (raised section) which can be lined up with the screw to adjust the park brake.
Remember to adjust both sides.

I think, now, i'm not positive, there is a cable adjustment at the bottom of your parking brake handle.

I believe this parking bake is the foot actuated style?
If it is, check for a 10mm nut down by your parking brake6d267c6b-d2f2-45cf-a4c7-6f8a23c4abef.png

if you adjust that it should adjust it.

sometimes before doing this i like to check the drums to make sure there not out of adjustment.

i usually adjust the shoes so theres just a little drag.

easiest way to do that is to just adjust them so they just lock the drum, then go back a couple clicks so that they spin.

hope that makes sense. Let me know if you need more help

Can't get auto trans. out of park , has been fine till today

Do you have a brake switch problem where it will lock your car in park until it gets a signal that you have pressed the brake?

This is the way newer cars are, but I am not sure about the 1991 Toyota Camry.

One post says:
'check the switch you can adjust it either in the steering collum or in the floor shifter if it gets so far out of adjustment it wont allow the button to release it'

Hand brake, Camry Altise

Hello, I researched this problem for you and it is a common problem with the Altise. It feels like you have to pull the E-Brake really far up I am assuming. Factories and Dealerships do not normally adjust these to each and individual car but this is not a complicated thing to do. Adjusting your parking break from your car can be some what complicated due to the amount of work you have to do to get to it inside your car. You may have to remove your console to get to the necessary screws to take your cover around your transmission selector out but if you mark and bad all your parts and screws and their locations this should not be difficult at all. You can also try to adjust the parking brake from under neath the car and you will probaly have to remove a cotter pin and a washer and then screw the lond U shaped connector at the front of your parking brake cable towards the rear of the vehicle to make it more tight. This may fix the long travel of the parking brake cable. Just take note that this is a common problem with your vehicle but with a little time you can make this a manageble fix that you will be happy with and I hope you fix this and are happy with the work you done as well. I would refer to a Haynes or Chilton Auto Repair Manual for the best step by step information as well.
