Question about 2001 Chevrolet Monte Carlo

My motor jumps when i start my car up and i smell gas.i was told that i need a MAF sesnsor auto zone read the check engine light.my rpm does not go pass 2.Please give me some assistance.

2005 mustang my car started to misfire sputtering while giving gas and when coming to a stop rpm go down to 500 then back to 1000 but only sputters just once yesterday bad maf or fuel injectors


if you have an obd scanner check the codes.....could be as simple as a dirty fuel filter...also shows symptoms of a failing fuel pump (electric, mounted inside tank)....If you dont have access to an obd ll scanner, take it to n Auto Zone, Murrays, Napa, Firestone, or Goodyear, they will usually scan it for free........good luck.

It actually is saying the air flow is low at the MAF passage. This can mean a clogged air filter or clogged ductwork. Your engine RPM may have changed from the tuneup. If this is the type of engine with the added spout to the distributor, you may have not reconnected it after setting timing.

A bad groundwire will also affect every engine setting overall or from the single badly grounded sensor. You may want to do an Ohm test on the plug-in wires for the MAF to its ECM. You may have a broken wire which would affect the readings.

Just to illustrate, if the MAF produced a fictious 1 volt at normal flow, then the timing and fuel enrichment are set for that RPM. But if the MAF reads .5Volt, it may enrichen the fuel or adjust timing for an engine running 3000RPM. This would flood the converter with more gas than was being burned and needed at idle and result in a Sulfur smell.

I have a 1996 sunfire that all of the sudden wont accelerate , rpm's stay down , check engine light on and has for some time smelled like gas after running


as long as light is on, go to auto-zone etc they will scan for free. no sense in guessing, the OBD-2 scanner will give you a po code, so you know what area to start and fix it.

auto zone can only help you when the check engine light is "on" SUGGEST THAT YOU HAVE IT CODE READ AT AUTO ZONE THE NEXT TIME THE LIGHTS ON,WHEN IT DOES COME ON,LEAVE IT RUNNING THEN when you have someone with you,leave the car running,go inside auto zone and get them to come out and code read it while the lights on.the only way they can read it is if the check engine light is on. i understand that you have a new motor, you may have a bad idle control sensor. that jumps out at me. the silver canister on top of your engine that has only 2 screws holding it to the engine and has an electrical plug in. does the engine die after you start it sometimes? when you're at a light does it not want to take fuel when you press on the gas pedal? does the engine die sometimes for no apparent reason when it"s setting still? if any of these signs are correct,then a bad idle control sensor is suspect.if not that,then you may have a clogging or clogged fuel injector.if you suspect that,then i suggest adding lucas fuel injector cleaner to your gas tank. this stuff works great for unclogging fuel injectors.you can find it for around $5.00 at auto zone,just add it to your fuel tank.run the engine and you will see a difference after the 1st 15 miles. no more missing or sputtering at stop lights or stop signs. thank you for choosing fixya.com

My car sounds bad. it smells like gas when started. and it runs bad. also the check engine light is blinking


Check engine light is blinking a code, a auto parts store can read codes for you most the time its free, sound like maybe a few diff things, the EGR valve maybe stuck open or shut, or a O2 sensor, or Mass Air Flow Sensor, they do make a mass air flow cleaner thats the only thing you can use on it, the mass air sensor is just after your air filter on the tube that runs to the motor, the O2 sensors are on the pipes before and after the converter. Egr vents the non burnt gas back in your motor to re burn it the pipe coming off the manifold back up to the top of motor should see a egr would have a round diaphram looking thing on it. start with the codes being read at auto zone or O''rillys. i know on that that Rodeo you have to change the PCV valve about every 15,000 mi it vents the air out of the motor, run about $3, worst case senario it jumped time,

Try checking the codes. You can do this at part stores like auto zone for free. It might be the maf sensor or if it says lean o2 sensor than it's the fuel filter.

2000 Malibu will not idle


4000 rpm and flucuating is normal. rpm limiter. If its too rich need to find out why. first thing to check is the fuel pressure regualtor, take off the vac hose to it, and if there is fuel in the hose, the regulator is bad and will need replacement. that is only 1 thing that could cause rich running but is always the first thing to check. if its running that bad there should be a service eng soon light on.

Sluggish throttle responce


Clean the inside of the MAF sensor with MAF spray, it is made by CRC corp, a MAF will in most cases not set an engine code which turns on the check engine light.
