Question about 2008 BMW 528i Sedan

1 Answer

The rear window came off track on my 99 528 BMW I think that a plastic bushing broke on the lifting arms, this isn't the first time though not the same window. My other problem is that there is a side impact air bag; my thought was to disconnect the battery. Any suggestions? Ray Geus

you will have to replace the window regulator it is recommended to disconnect the battery before unplugging air bag but there is no 30 minute waiting time and to be honest bmws have a safety feature in the airbag connector itself i have unplugged hundreds of airbags on bmws and never disconnected battery been doing it for 15 years and know of no tech that disconnects battery

My 1994 Camaro passager side window is off track, and it is NOT electic... How do I fix it???

Remove the rest arm, door handle and all the trim on the door panel. Pop out the plastic clips, working from the bottom rear, across the bottom, up the sides. Lift out the door panel. Unscrew the bolts or drill out the rivets holding the window crank. Move the assemly around inside the door to reset the rollers back into the track. Reverse the procedure.

52 plate BMW 320td compact front wheels wande on rough suface or ruts up to 40mph after that ok tracking done, suspension arms done can it be hard pofile michelin tyres. Also fuel consumption not good...

You say the suspension arms were done. Does that mean that you replaced the front control arms and got both new ball joints and a new control arm bushing on each side?
I presume that they checked for excessive play in the bearings at the tops of the struts while they had the control arms off?
Are we talking about following rain grooves cut in the pavement, or about following seams and traffic grooves? Following rain grooves is a trait of the tires. Following major seams and grooves is usually control arm bushings. If it is still unacceptable with new rubber bushings, you may want to try polyurethane control arm bushings. Poly bushings are getting popular among BMW owners for exactly this reason.
BMW uses firm control arm bushings on M3s, but very soft control arm bushings on everything else, even when they install optional 'sport' suspension.

Drivers side window came off track and now free falls, how complicated is the fix,ie removing door panel..

on a scale of 1 to 10 (1 being anyone over the age of 15 , 10 being specialty training / tools) I would rate this a 3 .

The glass didnt just fall off the track... they are designed not to do that. Something must have seperated or broke off in the door somehow ( from slamming the door when entering / exiting).

Take the arm rest off and then the interior door trim pannel. be careful pealing the plastic barrier back to gain access ( and always repair any damage done to this plastic barrier to re seal the door).

If you need a video , look it up on youtube, there are a few.

Can't solve your problem. I have the same problem. driver side not wiping. Any suggestions? I've unscrewed the the 2 plastic end trims, and released plastic poppers on grill. I cant get the wiper arms off ( I have undone the top nuts). With out the wiper arms , I think I can lift out trim. Is this the right way , or am I creating further problems

Very common BMW problem. The front lateral arms that support the front to rear motion of the wheel. BMW calls it the upper, lower support arm. Two arms connect there. one left to right (think typical lower control arm, and this arm) It has a ball joint that connects to the lower most part of the strut and extends rearward to the rear crossmember and has a large bushing pressed into the arm. You can replace just the bushing if the ball joint end is ok. Bushings are about $45 each and you will need a press.

Window fell off the runner in the door

The door panel has screws on the bottom of the door panel. If there is carpet on the base of the door panel, the holes are hidden within the carpet.

Also, you have to remove the arm rest, typically it has 2 screws holding it to door and plastic push-in door panel clips on the sides. You can use a screw driver to help pop them out.

The door panel, when loose from door, lift up and off. Take your time so you dont break any tabs on the back side.

If the window is falling off the track, there is a small plastic tab that is mounted to glass or track; it slides in the window channel on front and rear tracks.

You can get this part at your local auto parts house, in HELP section.
