After about 1/2 a mile my check trans light starts flashing/speedo not working or fluctuating and i cant go into overdrive (isuzu bighorn 3.1td automatic 1995 inport). i have changed/toped up fluid but still same problem. i have herd maybe transmission sensor needs replacing but where is it/what to look for please
There are 2 possible problem and solution. 1st check your RPM sensor located in the transmission.(less expensive part). if this does not work. got to option 2 which is the computer box, try to consult an expert computer box technician to repair it or buy a new comp box. but before buying... be sure all electrical connections are good and no additional accessory are connected to the wirings.bad connections and circuits may lead to damage comp box.

the CEL lamp on all cars,(if a real tungston bulb) is in the cluster
use a flash light and aim there, see it> YOU WILL.
now you know where it is, if cant see it now wait until dark and use the flashlight.
2nd question, im sure there are more, but 2nd, is removing the cluster. (to replace old bulb twists is base socket CCW, its out.
this car has electronic speedo so no troublesome cable to trans
simply unscrew the cluster and pull it.
see those screws there? some cars need the ignition key surround shells removed first. I look first.....
most likely it would, the least expensive way to try to fix it is a transmission filter and fluid change. the internal solenoids will start to get a varnish on them if not serviced regularly. I don't know how many miles you have been since the last transmission service or how many miles are on your vehicle. you could ad a cleaner into the transmission to see if that would help, they make stuff designed to clean up varnish buildup.
is the car going into Overdrive? have the trans shop check their work over and make sure everything is OK. If the trans checks out ok, have a reliable repair shop check scan data and see if they can see anthing out of spec.
the OD light is flashing to let u know a fault has occurred in the transmission electronic controls or that it is slipping plus other issues, go to Kragen or Autozone and ask them to run a trouble code test, it is free, post the code back here for me to look at.
I would look into replacing the VSS which is the vehicle speed sensor, it is the input that tells the transmission when to go into overdrive and the torque converter to lock up, also make sure the connector is clean and tight to the sensor, this part is located on the side of the trans where the speedocable would go.
Your speed sensor in your trans. needs to be checked out sounds like its not working or not getting a good signal until its generating enough power and speed to start until it reaches 30 MPH. Check that out sometimes it could just be some dirt on it. It all makes sense the ABS light is on because its not reading the speed of the tires, and the AOD light is on because It has no idea when to shift into overdrive without knowing how fast its going. I sure Hope that Helps You Out, And Thanks, Bear001
