have you owned this truck for a long time? it sounds like you are getting too much crankcase pressure usually from bad PCV valve, but if it is running rough you have additional problems that can cause this reguardless of PCV valve condition, check for misfire on all cylinders when you find which one, pull plug and test compression on that cylinder, then the rest. What is the compression difference? if it is with in 10lbs, then check your plugs and wires see if misfire can be corrected that way, let me know

99 alero 3.4 blew the head gasket, intake gasket and water pump. Changed all of it. Rough start and high idle now. What could cause the oil light to stay on with the engine knocking and shaking?

More bad news. Have the oil pressure checked. Did any coolant get in the oil? Did it run like that for some time? Knocking and shaking is bad news-check it out carefully.

I think you are on the right track with a tune up. Replace the wires, air filter and oil as well. I also would run a cleaner through the fuel lines. An STP or a Lucas would be better.

Water doesn't compress, so worst case scenario, you may have done what I did and bent or otherwise slightly damaged a valve or piston component. My engine was a write-off, hope you have better luck!

Do you hear a knocking sound when you feel the vibration? Try to run the van uphill at 2000 rpm and observe if the vibration becomes strong or there is a presence of a knocking sound.

It could very well be a valve or lifter. The low oil may also cause the lifters or rods to knock.
As long as you aren't loosing oil or coolant, jeep runs good, and the knocking is not extreme, than add oil and you should be ok.

Sounds like a fuel problem , have you changed the fuel filter in a while ? could be the knock sensor or the knock sensor module needs to be replaced.

My engine is knocking and missing

I think you have run the oil down low or have had a blockage in the oil gallery to the crankshaft.Resulting in the bottom end bearings wearing out.Drain the oil and check for metal particals.good luck!!

I have a 1993 jaguar sov, 4.0 strait 6 cylinder, the oil gauge drops down to nothing and the car starts running rough, is the oil pump internal or external, and how big of a job is it to fix?

Before you tear into the engine remove the oil pressure sender and install a hand held mechanical gauge and check the pressure. The sending unit coud be bad. As far as the rough running.. when was your last tune up?? The gauge could also drop to zero due to insufficient RPM's because of the rough running. Does it have any knocks when the pressure is at zero??
