A4 key fob lost memory and will not start car--suggestions?

Might be it has stopped working or perhaps it has lost it's memory and needs recoding. Sometimes this is a dealer job and sometimes if the right procedure is followed the car can self code a key or fob. I suggest you read the vehicle handbook for a start.

recheck battery new doesent mean cant be defective --if battery good fob may have lost memory and u need to reprogram it or sync it turn vehicle on not start and press unlock 7-10 times if not working --than fob either internal damaged or needs to be sync by saab

I don't know about Porsche but you can get a key fob battery to fit most fobs at Wal-mart or any car parts store.

Your KEY will not unlock the Door? That has nothing to do with the FOB.

OR do you mean your FOB will not work at all?. If it is a PROGRAMMING ISSUE, you need to contact your Dealer

You say that your key fob does not unlock the car. Try to open the door ordinary and try to start the car. If the car wont start means that your key fob has lost the program and needs re-programing. The other option is either you by any case confused the key fob with the standard key which is only to unlock the doors. The last senario is when you have opened the key fob to check the battery lost the microchip and that is the reason for not starting. Check following my advice. Good luck.

unlock the car with the key and hold the key over for 30 secs,(the windows will go down) then lock the car/hold key over for 30 secs,(the windows will go up). wait 30 secs then press/hold down the unlock button on the key fob,this will resyncronise the alarm/key fobs.

I had the same problem. Try open the trunk with your key insert underneath and turn to the left or right I forgot but that should unlock the trunk. Now try to open with the key fob it should work?

I only have the 2000 diagrams, and they do not have memory. Does your model save settings for different keys? If your system is the same as the 2000 diagram below, I would replace the switch. If you have a memory module, I would replace the memory module.

I have an A4 and did this to re-program my key:

1. used the key to start the car...then turned it off
2. put the key in the driver door (door closed)
3. pressed the lock button on the key fob once
4. turned the key to lock the door.

This is basically the steps in the owners manual, but the car must be started with the key first, and the key must be in the door lock before pressing the lock button.
