On the BMWs, when the engine is over heating and only cold air blows with the heater on. this means is a bad water pump and you should change the thermostat at the same time.

Loosing power is probably the computer trying to protect the engine from damage. The actual problem could be low coolant or a problem with the water pump.

SOURCE: Faulty Fan Heater - The main vents are just blowing out cold air.

all cars have a recycled air weather its called max or just recycle its doing the same thing. So if your getting cold air in one spot and hot in another it means your vents are not blocking where they are suposed to. It could be just a simple fix, by getting into the dash where your vent controls are and looking at the flap that tells air where it can and cant go. if its stuck then it needs to be cleaned and oiled. If the cable is corrodend clean it and oil it so it can move freely, or just reconnecting it may be the fix. it sounds like you are going to have to be adventurous, and play with the mechanics of your vents. Typicaly theres really nothing tough there to work on, just REMEMBER WHEERE ALL THE SCROOS AND CLIPS GO. I have forgotten where a few went in the past and had to listen to sqeaking noises till I took it apart again. There are vent seals wich are no more than the weather stripping you buy at the hardware store the 1/8 inch thick tape. You may need to thin it down with a razor, usually not. but it works great for fixing the seals in car heaters, because its the same thng just a different color. Which no one will ever see.

Potential causes: Low coolant- fix by adding coolant Thermostat stuck closed- would also cause engine to overheat Thermostat stuck open- would eventually blow at least luke warm air Heater core plugged- Get it backflushed or replace it These are the most common causes

2002 Nissan Altima Cold air blows at idle but is warm at higher engine RPM

Heater core may be clogged. Try flushing it to see if water flows through freely. Also check the heater water control valve for restrictions.

There is no heat from heater at engine idle speed.

I have to believe that your thermostat is still sticking....replace it and you problem should go away. Relatively inexpensive fix.

1996 Saturn SL, Heater fan runs fine but no heat. Starts with a tad of heat then blows cold. Any ideas?

The plenum may be cracked, check for air blowing out where it should not, or the blender door is not opening, a cable sheath may have popped loose, or the heater core itself is clogged with leaf debris blocking air flow..

Would the heater control valve malfunctioning make the engine overheat blowing hot air out the heater one moment, then not blowing the hot air, temp gage spikes 225 plus. The motor takes awhile to heat up...

Heater control valve malfunction will not cause engine to overheat unless coolant is leaking externally...Overheating going down the road can be the result of a few different things...Partly clogged radiator...Insufficient air flow due to possible fan problem...External coolant leak...Make sure fans are operting properly and have cooling system pressure tested for leaks...Gaining and losing heat on the inside of the vehicle usually means system is low on coolant but you must find out where coolant is going

2004 Chevy Tahoe. Heater working only at higher speeds.

you have air trapped in the cooling system. A good indication is that one or both of your heater hoses going into the heater core are cold when they should be hot.
Park facing uphill, raise front of vehicle so radiator cap is higher than top of engine. (You want bubble to get to radiator and out the cap.)
Leave cap on but loose, so bubble can purge.
Turn heater on.
Fill radiator and reservoir with 50/50 mix of antifreeze.
Start engine and run at about 1500 roms until the engine warms up and thermostat opens.
You will know themostat opens when top radiator hose is hot indicating coolant is flowing.
Shut off engine.
Fill radiator and reservoir. Install cap.

please Rate as fixya if this works. good luck

Heater only blows cold air but hoses are hot

Hi!
It appears we have an Air lock scenario and you will need to perform a system Bleed.
Park the vehicle on level ground, when cold remove coolant filler cap, start engine and leave to idle, turn heater on full and blower to max. When engine reaches operating temperature watch and listen near coolant filler, keep clear as gurgling and hopefully a boil over should occur. Top up with very warm coolant and wait as it may do it again.
Check for heat inside vehicle if warm replace coolant cap but keep an eye on temperature gauge as the ~Air lock may have moved on from heater matrix/core so proceedure needs to be carried out again from COLD.
If persistent boil ups/over attention must made in the cylinder head
or gasket area, or possibly water pump?

Overheating again

The heater stopped working because there was no coolant in it. Your real question is where is the water going.

Have the cooling system pressure tested to be sure you have no leaks. You said you had the radiator flushed, I suspect some of the tubes are blocked, it should be dissassembled and rodded then cooked out. Not just flushed. You problem is in traffic, low speed. The car starts to over heat, it blows the water out of the overflow, the level is down, the heater stops working, then you are out of water in the engine and overheating.

BTW ground the wire that goes to the warning light sensor and be sure it lights the warning light. If htis is the case the sensor is bad. I assume when you turn the key on but before starting the light does work then, correct? That means the bulb is ok, that does not check the sensor.

Good Luck!
